Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
HL: Brian Wilson (or The Beach Boys)/String Cheese Incident/Jack Johnson (go ahead and hate)
Undercard: Vampire Weekend/M. Ward/A Tribe Called Quest (or Q-Tip solo)/Booker T and the MGs/7 Walkers/Mike Gordon/Al Green/Mayer Hawthorne/Tennis/ALO
I think any of these bands would fit the beach vibe really well. Jack might not have been much of a headliner at Bonnaroo, but I think he could be perfect for Hangout Friday night or so.
Apparently Phish was a big rumor for this year, getting an offer but backing out due to their own festival and summer tour. I'd imagine Hangout would try to book Phish again.

Never too early to start wishlisting, I suppose. As far as artists that they would plausibly book, I'd love to see Wilco, Elvis Costello, Built to Spill, and Janelle Monae. I'd generally like to see more hip-hop, too.
As for headliners...I don't know. David Bowie, The Cure, and Prince would be nice, but I doubt any of those would happen.

I'm not a Phish fan in the least, but I bet Hangout goes after them hard next year. They'll probably have more money to throw around due to the success of this year's festival, and it probably helps that they've established themselves as a major festival now.
Phish won't be there next year. However, Phish is considering doing one of their festivals at the Hangout site in 2012. This convo was started around November or December last year, so after this past Hangout it might not be feasible as a Phish fest in Bama would have so much attention from the heat.
I don't think OP's wishlist or predictions or whatever are very good. Way too small scale. Next year's hangout will be HUGE. Guaranteed. SCI would be a 2nd tier band.
A lot of people really don't have any clue how big Hangout was, as in how great it is to be an artist at this festival. They can get ANYBODY they want now, trust me.
I think next year will have Paul McCartney as the headliner, and Furthur as the 2nd headliner. The past two Hangout festivals were warm-ups/paying dues to get a Dead show on an Alabama beach in my opinion.
Overall predictions- Paul McCartney, Furthur, Bob Dylan, SCI, Of Montreal, Butthole Surfers, Dweezil Zappa, etc........and a lot of festi regulars Franti, Keller, etc

where did you hear that the fest is going to be in aug. next year?

Agreed, the headliners will be huge. I was in the artist area near the main stage for an interview, and they definitely treat the bands like freaking kings. It looked like a parody of some high end coke dealer's Hollywood mansion in a ridiculous 80s action movie. Grohl seemed genuinely impressed about it when he was talking about the festival on-stage, too. Then you've got to factor in how much extra money they're going to have to offer after this year's success.
I'm curious about the Aug dates for 2012 too...from my understanding of the agreement they have with the City of Gulf Shores the festival timing is PRE-Memorial Day to get attention they don't get during peak season...which is Memorial Day-Labor Day generally being a beach community....

A. It was a wishlist. I'm sorry if you don't like the same bands that I do, but it doesn't make my opinion bad.
B. Brian Wilson and Jack Johnson are pretty big. Jack has headlined Bonnaroo which is one of the biggest festivals in the northeast.
C. I call bullshit on your "insider scoop." Sorry, I just don't see it happening in August.
D. I've spent time talking to the people that organized and founded the Hangout Festival and I don't think they quite see themselves that way. I believe the sentiment was "We took a huge risk with Paul Simon and thank God it paid off."
E. I mostly picked the bands I picked because I thought they would fit the vibe of the beach. Not sure Of Montreal or Dweezil Zappa fit that for me personally, but that could be cool. Dweezil puts on a great show.
Yes I made a typo!! Sorry I'm going to edit the original. It's May 18-20th. Officially, they are acting like they don't know when it is, but the condo I stayed at behind the mainstage had flyers in the room to "reserve your same room for next year!" and had the Hangout dates of May 18-20th.
Did that Chris guy literally say Bonnaroo was in the Northeast? lol I about gagged.
Hah, I did didn't I. Well I suppose if he's entitled to his "I hit August when I meant to hit May," then I'm entitled to mine. Then again I do live in Tennessee which kinda makes it worse.
Hangout seems like a good festival lineup-wise but after hearing all those horror stories from this past year I think I'll wait til I hear some reports on Hangout 2012 before I head down to bama. Maybe 2013 if they get more organized and hopefully the late nights will be included in the original ticket price.

I loved every minute of it. Best festival experience of my life. The horror stories usually involved people using drugs, and if you are into the "scene", then stay away from Bama. I simply cannot wait for Hangout 2012! I'd be down for some Beach Boys, but not sure if I'd be huge on just Brian Wilson. Jack Johnson seems destined to headline a night of this festival, and maybe Pearl Jam considering how much they love the surf.

I would be more worried about the shuttle situation. Some people said they had to wait for hours to get a shuttle which made them miss show they otherwise would have seen. Paying for the late nights would bug me as well.

The shuttle situation improved drastically each day. The first evening was an absolute nightmare. We had to pay a guy in a truck to take us back to our condo. However, each following evening they had more buses and it went more smoothly. And you could come and go as you please, and the only time you had a long line for a shuttle was after the shows concluded for the evening and everybody was headed back to the condos. I left the grounds many times and hopped right onto a shuttle during the day. I expect next year to run much more smoothly, but I wouldn't let the shuttles scare you. Hell, you may not even need to use the shuttle if you reserve a condo in advance and get one close to the grounds. Mine was in Orange Beach, so I had to wait it out afterwards. But yeah, the late nights need to be included in the price of the ticket. That is my only real gripe.
Raining today....saw a billboard on the way down about another music festival around this area in Oct?? Anyone know anything about it? Alabama Music Fest I think? No details on the billboard but being billed as "The biggest Music Festival In Alabama" ???
Yeap, it's Bayfest down here in Mobile. It is NOT for festi people at all. If you are a clueless yocal or love radiorock it is pretty awesome though. People come to this from all over the country for some reason; Michiganians LOVE Mobile, no clue why.
Duran Duran got added to this fest, and Korn is playing too (along with garbage country acts, Drowning Pool, 3 doors down etc) A good part of this is if you want to sneak in for free I know how, just PM me and I will tell you. You can bring in a backpack full of beer this way too. DuranDuran for free is a good thing!
Bayfest is pretty different though, but there are always good acts you would never really know about. Dennis Fingerroll Nelson played twice last year. Virtuoso black guitarist from Mobile....I came up on his set and he was playing a JAMMED OUT instrumental "Big Poppa". The next night he had a "Santana Tribute Set" in the Jazz tent that was on point. Saw Earth Wind & Fire the next night. The crowd is more likely what you would see at a State Fair; rednecks with tiny heads, Affliction/Tapout toughguys, skanky women, Juggalos, Derpy radio metal dudes etc... It can be fun though. And again, it is free if you ask me how. Always works.

Some of those comments are pretty funny....but also slightly scary. I hope the talk about giving city council input on what kind of bands can play is just lip service intended to shut up the angry locals.
