It's becoming a pain to drive an RV to and from Bonnaroo, not to mention being responsible for filling up the water tanks for showers, etc. I was thinking about flying into Nashville next year but I don't want to buy tent equipment down there and haul it. So Tent City looks like an option.
Has anyone stayed there? How is the setup and the protection from the heat?

I flew in this year and brought one bag for clothes and one bag for my tent and camping stuff. They were on wheels so it made things easier.
I've heard mixed things about tent city. If you're going to spend the money on that, some people recommended just getting a VIP ticket and brining a tent.

Yea, they are pretty expensive. I would probably just do VIP.
I have some friends who have stayed there the past 2 years, but they got it for free for volunteering with the setup. They seem alright. Fairly roomy, great proximity to Centeroo, and such, but again, they are pricey.
Wait that's what people get if they volunteer for setup?
The people I know are related to the person who runs the company that is responsible for providing and setting up Tent City. So they get a ticket to the fest and free stay in Tent City for coming the weekend before and setting up, and then staying after the fest and taking down. I don't really know any details beyond this. But I don't think that volunteering through Bonnaroo gets you in Tent City.

The Tent City in VIP looked like a refugee camp. I felt sorry for the people there.
Can you please be more specific?
My crew calls it the BonnaCult. It's just a big "compound" of fully contained white tents. Doesn't look too inviting and seems like kicking it at the campsite is more isolated than GA.

I agree. It doesn't look like a place that as you're walking by you think "that looks like a chill place to stop and hang out."
I stopped and asked some folks if they liked it as I was cruising around hoping to find my stolen stuff dumped somewhere. I asked how they were and the first person to respond blurted out "hot" and all of them said they probably wouldn't do it again.
just enjoyed my third roo and theres nothing like tent city, i wouldnt camp anywhere else. every year our neighbors have been cool and besides the nitrous guys running threw our site a little in 09 its been great. nothings ever been stolen or messed with. yea you'll be a lot dirtier and its not as comfortable as an RV but its great
