ironically, one of my coworkers assumed slampiece referred to some sort of hippie peace movement - or maybe something similar to a poetry slam, but with peace.

This all day. I had never heard slam piece before yall brought it up.
This blows my mind. All my frat bro friends in college always said it and that was like five or six years ago. Granted they said it without any irony so it wasn't as endearing as when Inforoo says it but still... I'm stunned no one has heard that phrase.
I haven't befn in college for over 15 years. I'm thinking its a generation gap with this phrase.

I wonder if it's regional too? I turn 30 this month, and have never heard the phrase until Inforoo. But then again, I never really hung with the frat crowd. Guess I missed out on all the slam pieces
Hahahahaha... The same friend I had to inform was a slam piece also had the nick name cum dumpster.
This is making her seem really awful.
I really didn't think it could get worse. Thanks guys.
It can always be worse.
Just for the record, said friend with the nickname didn't earn it by being a total floozy. We were all very drunk once and we started this game where we try to insult each other in the most ridiculous way... someone called her cum dumpster, more like metal growl/yelled it at her, and it just kinda stuck. The slam piece incident, however, was her being a total dumbass and needing some real talk.
I'm working on moving to NYC in August, not sure if it's gonna happen yet though.
EDIT: I posted this before I saw Bonnie's similar post further down pg. 1158
Haha, yep. I'm not gonna let shitty people deter from trying out a new place. Plus I already have a lot of friends in NYC, so I won't just be surrounded by strangers. I'm just gonna win the yanks over with my southern charm

Using the phrase "pardon me" is very disarming of most New Yorkers. "Excuse me" might as well mean "f*ck off, get out of my way"

If I really do move up there, it's gonna be interesting to say the least. I'll do my best to ignore my normal manners because I am very inviting and friendly and polite, the opposite of NYC, so I'm just gonna have to fight my natural ways and try to turn my heart as cold as the weather is there.
I know twenty one pilots get a lot of hate on here, but I've mostly ignored it because I've always liked them. But their new single "Fairly Local" is quite horrible, so tonight I decided to listen to their new song "Tear In My Heart" and see if it's any better. It sounds alright, but then about a minute in I hear this clunker of a lyric: "The music on the radio is okay/My taste in music is your face". I CRINGED SO HARD, and immediately turned it off. I don't think I've ever genuinely felt bad for a singer before because of a bad lyric. That's a first. I'll still listen to their album when it comes out, but I don't think I'll ever be able to look at them the same way again.

I've never been to NYC. I've met a few really cool and friendly ppl from there. That being said, why are the majority of people from the NE region (especially NYC) just complete asshats?

I know Chicago isn't the NE, but I learned from chicojuarz that you don't speak to people in elevators (or on the street, or really anywhere I guess). I made that faux pas when I asked someone where they bought their soda (long story) while we were in the elevator. Nothing wrong with being friendly.... I think you'll find most people will be too stunned to be rude.

I've lived in the Northeast my entire life and I still find myself asking the same question every day. I will say that people are generally more friendly and welcoming outside of the big metro areas, although the rural areas can have some seriously bigoted and uneducated rednecks. I grew up on Long Island (suburban NYC), which is probably the worst of the worst (along with Staten Island). If I had to guess, I think that a lot of the attitude problems are related to the stressful lifestyle. Everyone is always in a rush, and everyone is always looking to one-up each other. From the brand new vehicles in the driveway, to the perfectly manicured lawn, to the (not so-) perfect tan, people where I grew up are really competitive about the materialistic aspects of life. People don't stop and take time to appreciate the things in life you can't put a price on. And because we're so materialistic and concerned about instant gratification, we don't give a shit about how our actions affect other people or the natural environment. I didn't realize how bad it was until I moved upstate for college. Each time I returned to my hometown, I noticed more and more of the ugliness, and became more and more certain that I could never move back.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I generally don't even find people to be that rude/cold, but I suppose it is what you're used to...
Me either. I mean, we get some of the NYC "rudeness" in Albany when all the politicians are up but I've alway equated it to people having shit to do.
Its just a different way of life up here, I suppose. Winter is coming and all that, you know? But I wouldn't trade any of my fellow northeasterners for the world.

This week sometime. They cut it super close. Whenever I get anxious about Bonnaroo's schedule, I just remind myself that at least I'm not getting it the week of the festival.

Has anyone ever heard of a reason they release it so close to the fest? Is it just to minimize the potential bitching from people about conflicts, or is there a legitimate logistical reason? I find it hard to believe they don't know it already.
I'm really glad Bonnaroo doesn't follow suit, I need time to plan my schedule.

Speaking of which, we should be getting that soonish, right?

I don't know the reason for this BUT I have one possible reason that may or may not play into it... They are known for some of their shows having special guests that are often quite a big deal (like Tyler brought out all of Odd Future with him last year) So I wonder if, perhaps, they wait to know the availability of the guests for the acts that plan on having surprise appearances to figure out where to schedule those acts.
