Has anyone ever heard of a reason they release it so close to the fest? Is it just to minimize the potential bitching from people about conflicts, or is there a legitimate logistical reason? I find it hard to believe they don't know it already.
I'm really glad Bonnaroo doesn't follow suit, I need time to plan my schedule.
I don't know the reason for this BUT I have one possible reason that may or may not play into it... They are known for some of their shows having special guests that are often quite a big deal (like Tyler brought out all of Odd Future with him last year) So I wonder if, perhaps, they wait to know the availability of the guests for the acts that plan on having surprise appearances to figure out where to schedule those acts.
I think that could be part of it. Also there's no wiggle room because the sets are shorter and the curfew is strict. So maybe the logistics are a bit trickier?

Maybe, but there are plenty of other fests that have strict curfews, doesn't stop them from releasing a schedule. And the fact that Coachella is one of the premier fests in the country, you know they have some of the best logistics people working behind the scenes.
I could maybe see the guest list argument. Either way, hope to catch some of the stream!
Has the last minute schedule release been in place the whole history of the fest? Or is it something that started the past ~5 years?
This past weekend was one of the best I've had in quite some time. Thursday night I saw 3lau and while he may play some cheesey EDM, his set lasted from midnight to 3:20am so I got sweaty and danced and loved every second of it. Friday night I got to hang out with my sister who lives out of state, which is nice since we don't get to see each other as much as we should. Saturday I woke up early and went downtown Indianapolis because they were having free concerts all weekend for the final four. I was about 13-17 people back for all of Bleachers/Passion Pit/and muthafucking Rihanna! Bleachers blew my expectations out of the water, they covered Only One by Kanye and American Girl by Tom Petty, along with sounding great on their original songs. Maybe I'll see them at Bonnaroo if the schedule is in their favor. Passion Pit was alright, not bad but not as good as anyone else I saw. I only knew their bigger songs from earlier albums and none of their new material. I was sooo excited for Rihanna but she only performed for 50 minutes when she had an hour and a half time slot =( she was still amazing, but selfishly I wanted more.
Sunday came and after Mass my mom made lamb for Easter lunch (lamb = dabomb.com). After lunch I was picked up and went downtown to see Zac Brown Band (again, for freeeee!). He played covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, Enter Sandman, The Devil Went Down to Georgia and one other song I really liked but I can't quite remember. He played some new songs too which I really enjoyed. Overall it was a amazing weekend, and a lot of it was in thanks to listening to some great music! Also, Kentucky and Michigan State lost >=) now if only Wisconsin would win tonight!
My jaw was on my chest the whole time reading that. I always DREAMED of being on that show. So cool to know it was an incredible experience for those who got to play.

Cool to hear Mike O'Malley was so great to the kids, too!
People who refuse to make and keep plans are seriously the worst. The. Worst.
There's no quicker way to lose my friendship and trust.
Amen to this. Be where you say you are going to be when you say you are going to be there.
If you haven't watched the new Aziz special on netflix check it out, he has a really great bit on why people are so much flakier today then they were twenty years ago.

Seriously. I'm a pretty laid back, go with the flow type of guy, but I understand I'm a bit more organized than many people my age, so I understand differences in time management and all that, but there's a line I draw.
I give my friend a ride home from Philly this weekend at the last minute so he can see his family for Easter. He lives with a room mate, and when I picked them up from the house, we all discussed hanging out later that night. We get everything planned as it was already getting late, and we had a serious drive ahead of us. The room mate gives him beer money in case he isn't back in time (he was leaving separately), and we head out the door. 10 minutes go by in the car and he starts trying to change everything, and I told him I wouldn't do that to our other buddy, and that I'm going to stick to the original plans. He eventually agrees, and asks if a few more people can come over to my place right before I drop him off. I say "Probably, but let me see what the situation is at home. I haven't been home in months, and not all of the beds may be available." I get a text the moment I pull into my driveway (20 minutes later) that says: "Hey man, me Andrew and Ty are going to a bar, you should come". I call him, say "what about our plans?", and the kid has the audacity to tell me I took too long to get home (he knows exactly where I live) and that we never really made plans. I told him to fuck himself, and me his roommate had a kick ass weekend getting plastered on tequila and wine. You really are only as good as your word, and it amazes me how many people don't care at all about theirs.
I'll certainly be watching that tonight, and I'm glad I'm not alone.
This week sometime. They cut it super close. Whenever I get anxious about Bonnaroo's schedule, I just remind myself that at least I'm not getting it the week of the festival.

ditto. I basically have my schedule memorized by the time roo hits because I look at it so much. and I personally like having the schedule out for a longer period of time so I can catch shows and eliminate any schedule conflicts.

I agree. I just found out some of my friends are going to Bonnaroo also, and I asked who they want to go see. Devin's response was, "I have 10 hours on the road to figure that out." They go every year (VIP) and apparently don't figure out their schedule until the car ride up. I am way too OCD for all that.

I had printed out, laminated versions of my schedule last year. Turns out I barely needed it because I remembered the entire thing.

Yep, and I can research bands in areas where I have blanks in my schedule.

but seriously. I may be 5 minutes late for everything in my life, but I will never bail on plans or leave a friend hanging. that shit pisses me off so much.

Cringed reading this? They told me in person, I almost fell down and had a heart attack. I can't believe that people actually roll out to a festival like that... although my best festie girl, relies on me to make our schedule, so I guess I can believe that people roll out like that. Fucking CRAZY, IMO.
I just had a road runner scare the shit out of me.
Everyone's cars/trucks are parked out in front of the trailers we stay in, and everyone has to back in the parking spot. I had to go turn in my afternoon report, so was walking out of trailer, in between two trucks. There was a road runner sitting on the trucks hood, and he didn't fly off til I was 2 feet from him. I didn't see him til he took off.

Made my heart skip a beat!
it's like san antonio is on a completely different planet with the stories you tell...

People like this confuse me. There are many things in life that I'm totally fine with being in the dark for, but Bonnaroo? It's so expensive, big, and has so much potential, that it really take good planning to properly maximize. It just doesn't make any sense. It's like going on vacation and just winging it. Will you have a good time, probably. Are you going to miss out on some of the best that place has to offer? Absolutely.

Ha, this wild life action isn't happening in San Antonio. I'm out in the field for work, and am near Crystal City, TX probably 40 miles or so from the Mexican border (as the crow flies).
I'm on a giant ranch, it has to be at least 10,000 acres. Nothing here except for mesquite, cactus, and wild life. And of course rigs, pump jacks, and us.

Preach it! I agree 100%. The boyfriend and I have already talked about who are must sees on each day, and extra stuff that we would like to do as well. Also, what shows if they conflict, would we be splitting up for if it is higher priority for one than the other. The funny thing is, my best festie girl and I go to at least 3 festivals a year together. She never plans when she goes with me, unless there is someone that she HAS to see, but usually our tastes are what for what. She is going to Sweetwater with her crazy, flaky, annoying boyfriend... I am sure that she planned out who and what, at least I hope because he sure the fuck won't.

I went with 4 friends last year. I was the only one that had a schedule. On top of that, one of the girls made our group miss Little Dragon for wiz because "he's the only artist I'm really familiar with" SMH 8531490 times!
