so we were working with a client that was setting up some sort of new project. due to the people working on it, one named "alan" and one named "parsons", they named it the "alan parsons project" with no idea that meant anything else.
very exciting development for the boomers i work with and me, the music nerd.
if you haven't listened to alan parsons project you should throw "I Robot" on a nice system and crank up the volume for the first two tracks, i robot > i wouldn't want to be like you. one of the most beautifully mixed and mastered album of all time and the drop into "i wouldn't be like you" absolutely slays. strong boomer energy, sounds like progressive sci-fi yacht rock.
I loved Eye In The Sky when I was a kid. I still find it sonically comforting.

I can't remember which one it's in (the second movie, I think), but when a friend and I saw the Austin Powers movie on opening weekend, we were the only people in the theater who laughed at the Alan Parsons Project joke. In case you're curious, it's a weird feeling being the only people laughing at a joke.
How else am I supposed to creep around here once every week or two and let you know that I think a post is funny/interesting, or that I support your decisions, while not actually lifting my head above water??
No matter how long I am away from here, I always read every post that I have missed in this thread. Obviously. <insert post like notification from a post two weeks ago>
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Word. I always liked them. Kind of a hidden tier band (like Argent) with a great lead producer. Our graduation theme song was Time (APP) which while pretty cool, wasn't quite as cool as AHS's "We'll never pass this way again." That shit still cracks me the fuck up almost 40 years later. And where tf did those 40 years go? Yikes.
Random for me today was that I read an article that said those in the 504 area code will have to dial 10 digits for local calls by late October 2021 because the 504 area code utilizes a 988 prefix in 7 digit numbers. At some point back, the FCC decided to make "988" "The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline" telephone number. All in all, there are 82 area codes in 32 states that will transition to the 10 digit local calling due to them also having 988 prefixes. Just because I'm sipping on a nightcap, I'm going to have to go ahead and post the list of affected area codes. Remember, the transition begins April 24th to October 24th. Different area codes may go 10 digits sooner for local calls:
2024: The Floozies, Phyphr, Disco Biscuits, Cimafunk, WSMFP, The Killers, Cory Wong, Dumpstaphunk, Bomba Estereo, Molly & Golden Hwy, Big Freedia, Payton/Nth Power, A.P&TFN, Mule

Ever since Katrina I've always given out my area code and dialed area codes also. But this isn't a new thing, they've been talking about doing this for a while. I know a few states like LD already said use the 10 digit system already.

I remember my landline phone numbers from both the houses I grew up in. I only know Kyle's, my mom's, thejeremy's and my own numbers otherwise.
Me too! When I started at my current job my sister had been there for many years prior. When I went to access the safe for the first time I learned that she used our childhood phone number.
i don't know my wife's telephone number, but i remember the landline of my childhood friend who lives down the street.
i also know all of the lyrics to the first verse of Bone's "East 1999" and i haven't listened to that song in at least a decade.
Totally random, but I can rap all songs in Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory from memory. Still remember the shock on my friend’s face from few years ago when we went to karaoke and started rapping Points of Authority.

I have my three favorite takeouts programmed in my phone.
it's so easy to just Google a restaurant and click the call button though
Yep, that’s what I usually do.
I don’t know my husband’s number. I did until we moved to Georgia and he got a local number, and I just can’t get it to stick in my brain. I don’t really know anyone else’s either, so I keep a list of phone numbers in my wallet in case I’m ever somewhere without my phone.
This is partly because a few years ago, we were staying at an AirBnB in Knoxville, and we accidentally locked ourselves out of the house. We had been hanging out on the porch, so I didn’t have my phone (or my wallet so my list of numbers wouldn’t have helped then). Thankfully, my grandparents’ still have the land line they’ve had for over twenty years because that was literally the only phone number I had memorized.
yeah one time I got arrested and the cops drained my battery watching a video of my friend dancing (lol rip CJ) just over and over while they were going through my phone to try to get me to flip numbers.
so by the time I get up to get my phone call, the only number I knew was my mom's 😬

this and even then you can mostly order online and don't even need to call them. it's 2021 people, please never call me, text me
You can't order online at my favorite poboy shop (or my Chinese place). You have to call or go in to order. And they're the best. Dashboard (32") shrimp/oyster poboy is only $20.
