There are actually people who prefer a DD doughnut to a KK?
There must be. We have both all over town, each happily staying in business.
Edit: not a bad topic for a thousandth post.
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of DD. As a whole, they reall do a good job. I just think that the one area where they are pretty weak, (ironically enough) is doughnuts. And that's where KK brings home the bacon.
Edit: I didn't even notice that! I suppose it's fitting though, because I'm always ready to throw down when it comes to food A vs. food B.
Since I apparently started 3 pages of coffee discussion, I would like to point out I was at work and my two coffee choices are starbucks or the Union owned coffee shop which brews it's coffee at 6 in the morning and it sits in an urn for the rest of the day.
Tucson has some very good local coffee shops that I prefer when I can
If you handed me one of each, I wouldn't even know the difference.
You put artificial sweetener in your tea. You're opinions are false.
No no no no no... I never said IIII put artificial sweetener in my tea. I said people around here do. If I do iced tea- which is basically only when I am desperate for caffeine and coffee isn't around- I do lemon. I don't like any kind of sweet near my tea.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I've honestly never had a DD doughnut, despite living within 2 miles of a DD. KK I used to love, but hate it now. They just taste like sugar. We have a bakery in town that has amazing doughnuts; the plain glazed actually have flavor other than "sweet", and the kicker is they make a doughnut with maple/bourbon icing and bacon on top. Now THAT is heaven on earth.

I'm with you. I'd rather have the local apple farm's cider doughnuts which are uh-MAZING or make my own. How do they put the bacon on top? Do they chop it up like sprinkles? drool

Actually, I think the only donuts I've had in the past 5 or so years have been local apple cider donuts.. or even better the fritters!!

Yeah. Indie pastry shops, man. We have this little bodega in the next town over that makes elotes that'll absolutely shrivel your pancreas. I like KKs, but I'd drive by a dozen of them to get to this place.

Those are long john style so they put full strips on top!

OMG, apple fritters are the best thing ever! I love when they are slightly undercooked on the inside.

Phew! I had almost lost all hope... Even though I'm not a fan of the lemon, I'll certainly allow it.
Sidenote: Any time Juggs and Flanz are on the same side of an argument, all you have to do is bring up Starbucks and DD. I don't think either of them are budging on that one .

One of my supers sounds like Andrew Dice Clay, but he'sa 5'2" Irish-American dude from Strong island. I just pretend it's the Dice Man on the other end of the phone and it makes these conference calls fly by.
I'm quite used to this Dave shuns me all the time when I get on my anti-Southern food rants.
bonzai, what are you going to do this weekend then??! You do realize that Monell's is ALL Southern food?
Ha. I know I figure that I can't do my first trip to Nashville and not get some southern cuisine. I'll deal for a meal And VV is going to bring me to get some hot chicken which I don't expect to love either!

Monell's is just too much for me; it's too greasy and rich. Plus, nothing compares to my grandmother's country cooking
Hot chicken, if done well, is awesome. I can't do the over-the-top hot stuff (I hope that's not what he brings you) but add in some spiciness, and I love it.

wolfmanjess recommended Hattie B's Hot Chicken and it was really good. I haven't tried Prince's, but it was much better than Bolton's. I can't believe I've never tried Monell's. I've heard great things.
My family never left the South much when I was a kid and I remember feeling stupid the first time I walked into a restaurant in Berkeley and ordered sweet tea and the waitress brought me a cup of hot water and a Lipton teabag and a sugar packet. I was like, "Oh. Right."

You're gonna be in Nashville this weekend? Oh you BETTER go to Monell's!
And be carefully with the hot chicken, it could ruin your weekend, if you know what I mean.
