good, i came here to say eat the ice cream damn it. what kind of ice cream was it? i love ice cream.
I'm a milkshake guy - I've been brought to many a yard by a good milkshake - so I went with Chick Fil-A Cookies and Cream milkshake, then I drove around my friend's neighborhood for 8 minutes drinking the milkshake because I didn't get anything for him and his wife and I couldn't go in with something only for me because that would be rude.
On your birthday, do you take the day off from work or no?
I'd think if you don't like your job, take it off. If you don't mind it, go in that day. My fiancee wants me to work, I want to stay home.
I have never taken my birthday off work. When the kids were younger & not in school, I would take their birthday off. Now I just leave early so we can do something fun when they get out of school.

If you want to do something during the day then take it off. I tend to work on my birthday because I'd feel like I'm wasting a PTO day if I was truly just sitting around the house. If you've got big plans by all means take the day.

I have always taken my birthday off. It's a week before Christmas. No one but me and my parents really celebrate it, so I have a nice little day to myself. Unless it falls on a weekend, then I take the whole weekend off and get shitty drunk.

I've never taken my birthday off. I may be completely alone on this, and a total Judgy McJudgerson, but I know in the past I've thought it's a little silly when people make a BIG deal of needing their birthday off (or a big deal of "having to work" on their birthday). I'm sure you won't make a production of it either way, but I wouldn't suggest mentioning the reason behind asking for the day off, it's none of their business anyway!
Maybe your fiancee wants you to work so you can save up your days to enjoy together?

It depends on the birthday and whether or not it falls during Voodoo fest for me. My boss usually takes us out for our birthday and it is usually somewhere fancy and yummy so I like to be here for my birthday usually. This is the first job that I choose to go to work for, all other jobs I have always taken off on my birthday, but I have only had a desk job for 10 years and I never bartend/serve on my birthday. I am all about birthdays though, so I think it depends on the birthday person. It's your day and if you don't want to work then don't!

I am two days before Halloween and feel the same way except the getting shitty drunk. I get fucked up though, don't worry.
A while ago I paid $70 each for two tickets to see Macca tonight, and they're wayyyy out in the boonies of the stadium. Now I'm looking on Stubhub and there are tickets for on the field going for $46. The secondhand ticket market is so weird sometimes. I'm sorely tempted to just eat the cost of the tickets I originally bought and get the field tickets.

If you wanted to drive to Hershey next Tuesday for Macca you could get on the field with me for free (I have an extra).
You know this. There isn't a way to hide a thread. You can block asshats with wrong opinions though. The problem is they still show up when quoted.
It's 95% of the reason I've just gone to lurking.
I guess I could just go back to the way I use to. Recent posts is so much easier though.
i know we as a board have this discussion every few months, and i always say the same thing, but i find the combination of "recent threads", then clicking on the little "new" button that takes you to the first unread post in the thread, is the most efficient method of inforooing. recent posts is entirely too chaotic for me. i know a lot of people use it but i can't understand how you can tell what is going on. I need to read through a thread chronologically to understand the context of what i'm reading.

This 100%! Recent Threads + "new" bubble is where it's at.

In February, they have what's called a mass sign up. I always (try to) reserve my birthday, the Thursday before and Monday after Newport weekend, and Labor Day. I cancel or partial cancel (work a half day instead) as needed.

Mind blown. I did not know that was a button, just thought it was an indicator that there was a new post since the last time I refreshed.

My neighbor likes to sit on his porch and tell me:
- how to prune the tree on the side of my house on the city sidewalk - that I should cut down said tree - that I need to use quick concrete to fill in the portion of my "driveway" so nobody trips, falls, and sues me - that I should use my back patio area as a parking space (it's original intended use) - that I need to chop down the weeds on the city sidewalk - that I should just use weedkiller on those weeds - that I shouldn't worry about whether there are cars parked where I'd need to whack the weeds, I should just go at them anyway
Then he has the audacity to ask me for smoked ribs on Saturday night when I made them. Of course I gave him some. But I was still seething inside. I want to become a hermit because of him.
