My neighbor likes to sit on his porch and tell me:
- how to prune the tree on the side of my house on the city sidewalk - that I should cut down said tree - that I need to use quick concrete to fill in the portion of my "driveway" so nobody trips, falls, and sues me - that I should use my back patio area as a parking space (it's original intended use) - that I need to chop down the weeds on the city sidewalk - that I should just use weedkiller on those weeds - that I shouldn't worry about whether there are cars parked where I'd need to whack the weeds, I should just go at them anyway
Then he has the audacity to ask me for smoked ribs on Saturday night when I made them. Of course I gave him some. But I was still seething inside. I want to become a hermit because of him.
Is he a lonely old guy? Or just a total busybody?
Good question. He lives on the second floor of a house that abuts mine (I live in the city, so think like row houses only our back porches touch). I only ever see him sitting on a chair out there, usually smoking. I have no idea what he does the rest of the time. He's just nebby and annoying. He complimented the ribs though.

My neighbor is nuts. luva can attest... But he's a pill head and constantly trying to sell me drugs or cut trees in my yard. I'll trade you. Although the rib thing might get old.

I've been thinking of snapping a house tour. Should we make that a thing? Since there's no more selfie Fridays or karaoke.

Omg. You'd die when your see his not there siding on his house, and of course the explanation to everyone when they come over.

Until maybe the last two years I would always take the day after my birthday off. But now that me and most of my friends have steadier jobs and we don't party as hard I haven't really felt the need to ask for the day off.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I had to look up both "yinzer" and "nebby". I assumed the latter was a typo for needy when I read it.
Yeah honestly have no idea what either one means.
Care to provide us with definitions? (too lazy to google at this point in time)
nebby adj. given to prying into the affairs of others; nosy
neb v. "to put one's 'neb' [nose] into a discourse or argument intrusively or impertinently; to pry, to nose around; hence v. phr neb out to mind one's own business"; n. busybody.
Western Pennsylvania English, known more narrowly as Pittsburgh English or popularly by outsiders as Pittsburghese, is a dialect of American English native primarily to the western half of Pennsylvania, centered on the city of Pittsburgh, but potentially appearing as far north as Erie County, as far east as metropolitan State College, as far west as metropolitan Youngstown (Ohio), and as far south as micropolitan Clarksburg (West Virginia).[1][2] Speakers with the strongest accent of this dialect, associated with the white working class of Pittsburgh, have been historically called Yinzers.

I probably had the shortest conference call this morning since I've been at my current job, just under 10 minutes at 9:58. I hate those calls, probably the worst part of my day. TODAY IS GONNA BE AN AWESOME DAY!!!

I feel like this is a silly question. I'm making the cake and cupcakes for a friend's 30th birthday party in September and we started planning out the logistics last night. She has a few friends attending that are in AA. The flavors we're leaning towards all contain alcohol, it would be in the cake so the alcohol bakes off. That's not something a person in AA would eat right? That's what my gut is telling me, at least.
I just want to have something for them to enjoy as well.

I may be completely wrong, but my gut also says they wouldn't want to partake even without the buzz.
Then again the dad of one of my best friends growing up was an alcoholic and drank odoul's constantly...but I'm not sure that was an ideal situation either.

My dad drank Sharps after getting sober too, he was a farmer/antique dealer and said that a beer after a long day on the tractor or cleaning out a house made him feel like a man.
A while ago I paid $70 each for two tickets to see Macca tonight, and they're wayyyy out in the boonies of the stadium. Now I'm looking on Stubhub and there are tickets for on the field going for $46. The secondhand ticket market is so weird sometimes. I'm sorely tempted to just eat the cost of the tickets I originally bought and get the field tickets.
If you wanted to drive to Hershey next Tuesday for Macca you could get on the field with me for free (I have an extra).
Oh snap! That is incredibly generous of you! I don't think I'm going to be able to make it, but I am very grateful for your offer!
i know we as a board have this discussion every few months, and i always say the same thing, but i find the combination of "recent threads", then clicking on the little "new" button that takes you to the first unread post in the thread, is the most efficient method of inforooing. recent posts is entirely too chaotic for me. i know a lot of people use it but i can't understand how you can tell what is going on. I need to read through a thread chronologically to understand the context of what i'm reading.
This 100%! Recent Threads + "new" bubble is where it's at.
I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD CLICK THAT BUBBLE! YESSSS!

Most of my family are in recover and always drink "near beer". I suppose it depends on the person and their stage in recovery. I still think It would be smart to have a few non alcoholic cupcakes for them to enjoy tho.

I'm in AA and I'm OK with eating foods with alcohol as an ingredient, so long as the alcohol has cooked off, which it sounds like is the case in your situation. However I'm 11 years clean and I didn't always feel that way. In early recovery I didn't eat anything that had alcohol in it, even if I knew the alcohol was cooked off and scientifically there was nothing mind altering in the food. This was purely because I didn't want to taste alcohol, just too many negative memories associated it with. But I got over it, I was just particularly sensitive to well, everything, in early recovery.
Similarly in early recovery there were certain songs I didn't want to hear because of the negative memories. But I got over that too, because I listen to Ween all the time now.
Sorry I can't directly answer your question, it really comes down to a personal preference of the individual. Would it be possible to ask the AA friends their preference?

As has already been stated some alcoholics drink NA beer and are fine. The alcohol content is so tiny it's doubtful it could cause a buzz or initiate a craving. I don't personally drink NA beer and neither does anyone in my circle of friends in AA. If an alcoholic does and is fine with it I'm happy for them, but if a sponsee asked me if they could I'd say no.

Im really glad I'm not the only one who has known recovering alcoholics that still drank NA beer. My grandpa drank O'Douls, too. Hence why I was being thrown for a loop.
And I kept thinking about the episode of 30 Rock ("Floyd" season 4) where Liz takes Floyd out to dinner and he orders Jack glazed salmon with sauce on the side. Floyd's a recovering alcoholic. He gets drunk on salmon. Just got me thinking.

Didn't mean to make it sound as bad as it came across, was just uneducated on the subject. I appreciate learning from the responses today
