this is so fucked, tl;dr florida pigs arrested a ton of ppl at a punk show for moshing
Lmao wtf. Is this not normally a music venue? I was just at a Joyce Manor show 2 months ago and I definitely wouldn't say they have or are known for insane mosh pits haha
Ever seen a video of a artist that you’ve known about for years but had no idea what they looked like? Watching Glasser on KEXP and just realized this.

If you’re Facebook friends with me, can you please go look at my FB and follow the link to vote for my niece in the Inked cover model contest, pretty please?! She’s been back and forth between first and second in her group. She’s first right now, but she has to stay in first to move in to the finals.

I know the sentiment these days is pretty anti-Pitchfork, but one casualty of the whole GQ restructure that just happened that really bums me out is that they're no longer doing the "X Albums Out This Week You Should Listen To" feature on Fridays. Not everything they put in there worked for me, but it was decently curated and a nice way to sort some stuff I might want to give a try out of the massive amount of music that's out there every week, now.
Does anyone have some sort of go-to source for that sort of thing? Like, a total list of new releases is too much - I'm looking for something that curates a little bit.

inforoo album of the month thread is my sole source of new music

The bottom of Stereogum's Album of the Week is a decently long list, but it's listed by albums, reissues, and then EPs so it's at least organized, and it's edited at least a bit. But also...Pitchfork has a "new albums you should listen to this week" article this week!

Both P4k and BV drop around 9 am on Fridays. Sometimes BV is a little late but it’ll be there.

I tried to use Free Tax USA for my taxes this year to save money, as I wind up spending over $100 just to file with a tax software program, but it was far too difficult to understand compared to Turbo Tax, which is evil but very user friendly.
I hate it because I'd MUCH rather file federal free and state for $15, but I have too many small business loops and specifics that I need to write off effectively. So another $250 to the Big Tax Company in order to save $4000 - that was the difference between the two softwares because it was hard to figure out over at FTUSA.

have you tried credit karma? It uses the cash app and I'm pretty sure all the tax forms are free and I'm also pretty sure it's powered by TurboTax.

I don't use Cash App and try hard to keep my *what the feds won't know won't hurt them* transactions under the table. Also I just filed so maybe next year! Just sucks that everyone's situation is different enough that one person's success story doesn't always work for another person's.
Also the fact that we all have to guess how much money we owe is insane.

I think it's technically separate from the payment side of things but check it out for next year!

read this Marcus Aurelius quote and was moved by it so i'm sharing it:
"You have the power to strip away many superfluous troubles located wholly in your judgment, and to possess a large room for yourself embracing in thought the whole cosmos, to consider everlasting time, to think of the rapid change in the parts of each thing, of how short it is from birth until dissolution, and how the void between birth and that after dissolution are equally infinite."

Slate has an oral history of Pitchfork up today. It’s not a must read or anything (I personally just don’t like the oral history format) but there’s randomly a link out to Inforoo in it that I thought was funny. Inforoo, a historical archive!
Howe: The Strokes had gone on tour in Europe and they’d taken a piss in a river behind a stage, but it was some kind of really holy or sacred river. And it caused this big uproar. I can’t remember the details. This could probably be looked up. So, I did a whole “The Strokes: ‘Monumental Desecration’ Tour” post with the band defacing all these monuments all over Europe. That was kind of the temper of Pitchfork news at the time.
my attempts at trolling here are brazen but there is another guy down thread who is particularly good at it, he's the one "debunking liberal lies" and every time he mentions the NYC tax rate it goes up 10%.

In their defense, they have no idea what a nut you are. A good nut, but a nut.
Not to change the topic, but to change the topic, the cajun navy has arrived in Nashville! Gonna dig the Cumberland for that poor Springfield college student

So, after a series of shitshow ticket buying experiences for concerts here in NYC, I got to thinking about the double-edge sword that is living here as a live music fan. On one hand, we get just about every tour, plus a bunch of exclusive shit. On the other hand, it is an absolute nightmare trying to get tickets to a show with any level of popularity, and the laws protecting ticket resellers mean artists can't keep any sort of handle on the secondary market.
This, then, got me pondering...what's the best place to live as a live music fan in terms of providing the best balance between a) availability/access (and I'm talking about bigger, nationally-known acts, here, not local scenes, which are cool and all but not part of the thought experiment), and b) pain threshold when it comes to the ticket-buying experience/chance of getting in or getting good seats?
