36 from the vault is a great podcast with steve hyden (AV club, a bunch of cool books) and Rob Mitchum (the dude who makes that comprehensive album playlist every year; former pitchfork and deadhead) and they dig into the dick's picks series. here:s how they describe this one:
we hear a “Sugaree” that’s as close to perfect as you’ll ever get, a funky “Dancing In The Street,” a “Help On The Way -> Slipknot! -> Franklin’s Tower” for the ages, and a four-song jam from “Eyes Of The World -> Wharf Rat -> Terrapin Station -> Morning Dew” that sounded like a completely different band than most expected in May 1977.
they're not wrong. the help>slipknot>tower opens second set and it's off to the races. that's one of my favorite runs of tunes and it's really good here. Donna sings some lead and but she isn't all over this thing. not a whole lot of the disco weird sounds that can plague some late 70's shows, imo. eyes>wharf rat> terrapin is sublime. i'm in the back yard doing work and had to stop to make this post (and grab a beer) - it's a great show with some great runs of jams.

Big fan of this one. It's on my birthday which let me to check it out pretty early on when I got into the Dead. Definitely one of my favorite '77 shows

my wife wanted to buy me tickets for this show for christmas, but I bought tickets to the tennessee vols game at the georgia dome first. After the game we snuck into the show and caught the tail end of the second set, the countdown to midnight, and the all of the third set. long ass day in atlanta full of whiskey, beer, football, and WSMFP.

yeah late 70's i tend to avoid, usually, but this is a great show. no wonder it was dick's #3. first set is pretty ok, but set 2 starts hot and runs it through. Same run as Cornell so they're primed
