Because it's too late for 2011 ...
AF are breaking from the touring grind after ACL next month and should be in the studio. I've said before they'll take their time, but from what Will has said before, they have 30 songs in various stages of development.
I hope they launch their "Not the Suburbs" tour at the farm next June.
And last time out, they made a record in the month of May and it dropped Aug. 3.
I believe we'll have all new headliners next year. At least I hope so. I think Sunday's headliner will not be a jam band next year. Which is really the only repeaters we have.

Not only the "fresh meat" part, but they won't be any bigger or smaller than a Friday night headliner at this point next year.
Plus, after the Neon Bible tour they didn't really play any shows for 2+ years, unless you count Obama's inaugural party or whatever it was. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens again until the next album drops.
Apparently their next album is supposed to drop early to mid next year. So I don't see them taking a big break from touring anytime soon. I don't see them playing Roo anytime soon either though.
Also, if their next album has the success of The Suburbs or close to it I think they will headline the festival when they come back and put theirselves in the "Biggest Band in the World" conversation. I'm not saying they would be they biggest but they could be in the conversation.

I keep hearing people say that it's supposedly coming out early to mid next year, but I don't even know what that's based on. At the same time, there's a quote from Win in an interview from last year saying he doesn't know how much longer Arcade Fire will be around and (I assume at least partially joking) that they've already been around as long as The Beatles. You don't know what's going to happen.
Clearly I have nothing to base this on, but I'll be surprised if they have an album come out before the winter of '12/'13.
Nah dawg. I had a great time at AF '11 but if they were there again they'd (obviously) headline as they aren't going away any time soon, if anything they're just gonna get bigger. I'd rather them drop the big bucks on someone new.

Win said that he doesn't see Arcade Fire making music 10 years down the road.
Also on the new album, they have a bunch of songs in various stages and have come out and said if you're hoping for it to be like The Suburbs you'll be dissapointed. It's supposed to be more like Funeral and Neon Bible.
I love Arcade Fire, but would rather Bonnaroo mixes it up with some new headliners. Hopefully Arcade Fire will do an epic tour in 2012 so anyone who wants to see them can.

Most bands dont make music for that long. If they make music for the next 10 years then we have a lot of good music to look forward to. Also bands say stuff like this all the time. Mick Jagger said in old interview he thought they wouldnt be around for more than 2 or 3 years and they are going on 50.
Have you begun writing material for a follow-up album to The Suburbs?
There's been lots of stuff written that we've worked on. We don't think of it in terms of being an album but we've played it together a bunch and there's lot of promising stuff.
Electric Picnic will be the last show on your tour, is that right? What's coming next for you guys?
Yeah, it's the last show away from home. We actually have a free outdoor show in our hometown and that will be the last show, but Electric Picnic is the last show out there across the waters.

meh no thanks.
When I found out AF would be headlining, and when I thought I would be going to bonnaroo this past year, I got some of their stuff and I tried to get into them And I found that I did, in fact, like them. But I seriously don't get all the ridiculous hype and tremendous accolades they are receiving, and all the ass-kissing from the bulk of you. They are a good band. They make good music. But they aren't the revolutionary music gods people make them out to be. Or maybe I just don't get it, I don't know. I watched the webcast of their set. I was unimpressed.
Bring us fresh blood. Or bring us radiohead. Either way

I don't know about the overwhelming support and hype surrounding this band.
Like, I mean they're good, I enjoy them. But the pedestal people put them on is completely ridiculous to me. Like they're the next radiohead, or better. Like they're these magical gods who came from the sky and changed music. I hold them to about the same level as I would hold say, Phoenix or MGMT (not comparing the style, just where I would rank them).
Maybe I'm just jealous because I don't get the same level of enjoyment out of them as everyone else.
And honestly, I think had I gone in with low expectations I'd like them alot more. But with the way everyone hypes them up so huge, I find myself sorely dissapointed with what I hear, and trying to like it more than I do.

I get it, but it just seems like you dislike them because they're not really your thing. Not because they're necessarily good or bad.
If you're coming into it expecting this miraculous band based on how their biggest fans praise them, then your going to be disappointed most of the time.
I love AF so I will explain why I think they are great IMO.
I find most if not all of their music very original. They have their own sound. No one sounds like them at all IMO. Each album has had its own sound. They are not afraid of trying something different than what everyone else is doing. In this respect i think they are ahead of their time. I think they are one of only a few bands out right now that write meaningful music. I think they are absolutely phenomenal songwriters. They can take a concept for an album and relate that concept to what is going on in today's world. I listen to their music and can feel the emotion they put into it. They put forth that same emotion everytime they perform as well. None of the members of the band are great at any one instrument, but they all play multiple instruments well. This allows them to expand their sound more than most bands. Their musicianship also allows them to translate from the studio to the stage very well. I'm 23 years old and no other band has artistically expressed the time and trials of my generation in the way that Arcade Fire has. I understand that some people may not feel the same way. To each his own.

I'd be down for Arcade Fire, but only if they opened for someone better than them this time, like say, My Morning Jacket?
I can't be the only one who thinks that the lineup friday should have been The Black Keys >>> My Morning Jacket >>> Arcade Fire (Late Night), all on What.

I mean, yeah, it's all personal opinion and taste. But again, I do like them, they're definitely not "bad" by any means. Just ridiculously overrated In my humble opinion.
But I'm glad you guys enjoy them. If they headline again and I'm there I'll even check them out.
