I just took like 5 minutes and re-read the old Sproat v. Flanzo debate from last year and it's just as tremendous now as it was then.
I like to think of that as my own version of Doc Gooden's 1985 season. Limitless potential, hasn't quite figured out how to control god-given gifts, and working more off of emotion than know-how.
I think my posting style has rounded out nicely since that blunt-force weapon that I was in that interaction.
What a spectacular meltdown.

all i can gather from this is that sometimes we need antagonists and 'trolls' just to keep this place interesting and amusing. Sure they can be assholes but they are a means of entertainment whether we admit it or not. If we all acted civil and kind all the time this board would be really boring.
Most of us are pretty bummed out that Emoney is gone, but I don't think its right of us to take out our frustration on the mods. As Gibran and Aquarium both said, they're just doing their jobs and responding to a slew of complaints. Something specific must have happened to condone an indefinite banning, at least something more than just the usual antagonizing and arguing, no matter what person or group of people it was with. We probably won't know and it's really not our business to know.
As juggs said there is a big difference between being an antagonist that just argues within the context of a bold opinion, (juggs, flanzo, emoney, and LOADS of others) and an outright prick who posts insulting racist and homophobic slurs like that guy with the wook avatar (can't remember if it was wookiemonster or icantenough or both). But I do put my faith in the mods that when they ban a longtime poster like emoney or neighborhood creep, that there was indeed something serious behind-the-scenes going on, at least more-so than just occasional antagonistic behavior.
So yeah it's obviously not the mods who are to blame, they are just exercising discretion like anyone with any sense of authority does. If anyone is to blame its the anonymous people who complain over harmless jeering and get butthurt over some internet jest. In my opinion the only things that should constitute a ban is prejudice in the form of racism, sexism, and homophobia, and outright threats. And I guess pornography as well.
So yeah point is that Emoney was as flanzo said "someone that makes fun of things" while icantenough and wookiemonster were ignorant, backwards racists. I feel like 'pushing buttons' isn't banworthy and if you really take offense to something like that to the point where you are requesting a ban on someone, well then you're just a pussy really. This isn't Bonnaroo, this is Inforoo, a message board first and foremost no matter what it's for. If you can't take passive aggressive jests, you probably shouldn't be posting. Just my opinion.
I am going to go ahead and I say I trust the judgement of our moderators to know the difference between a bunch of people reporting someone for no reason, and someone being reported for objectionable behavior. All these guys are smart enough to take context into account.
What context might that be? The "I don't like his posts so I'm going to complain about them" context?
And I'm not questioning the mods, just the process. Complaints = headaches, so headaches get banned?
Emoney had a legitimate suggestion (that you can turn off viewing karma points for other users, not just turn off your own) and then got banned for presenting it in a non-rainbows-and-sunshine manner.
And I'm not sure why you're linking to something NoD "did" to prove a point, either. So, after Phi posted about Skrillex in every thread for weeks/months, he decides he can just throw down boundaries and people have to adhere to them? NoD is just as crazy for thinking he can have the same thing, only in the opposite direction. Using that thread as a barometer of any kind of rational argument is like citing Rick Santorum as your barometer for rational discussions about female rights.
Lol @ me posting about Skrillex in every thread for weeks/months. You are delusional bro.
It was a colorful exaggeration but you pointing that out doesn't negate the fact that you DID post in the "no skrillex/mau5" thread ABOUT Skrillex many, many, many, many, many times, bro.
Of course I did. But 90% of the time I was engaging in an already ongoing conversation, and then after people realized I was a fan of Skrillex, they engaged me. Go back and read the thread.
Some of you people are really blowing shit out of proportion.

And emoney did, what, exactly? Engaging in an already ongoing conversation, no? How is this different than what you did?

I was admittedly exaggerating. But you yourself have admitted that annoying other posters is in fact "success" to you. What you did to the No Skrillex thread is no different than what emoney did to the "say nice things about Skrillex without posting any photos of him" thread that you started.
Some of you people are really blowing poop out of proportion.
Okay, picture what your reaction would be if Jess was banned. I doubt you would be silent on the issue, am I correct in believing this? That's why people are "blowing it out of proportion." Because they feel it's unjust, just as you'd feel it was unjust if Jess got banned.

Ironic title for this thread considering the turn it took.
I just want to say that I hope emoney gets to come back. There are a lot of posts that make me cringe (not just emoney's) but that's free speech. I don't remember reading him posting about a fire in a crowded theater. I can see banning people that only want to pick fights but that's not what he was doing from my perspective. I have to admit I do find some of the snarky exchanges (again not just emoney's) pretty entertaining and most of them don't escalate to much.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Is anyone else having problems with their account automatically liking and disliking random posts? Its been doing it for a week or two and it is really annoying.

I think there is a big difference between me getting banned and emoney getting banned. In my case it would be unjust because I have not done anything worthy of it. He has been banned three times now, I doubt they all were over reactions on the part of the mods, though I do not know the specifics in any of the cases.

You really don't remember specifics? One of the bans was because of him posting a picture comparing you to a certain Survivor character, and your likening it to invasion of privacy (never mind that as recently as a month or two ago No Depreshion posted a photo of an inforoo member on inforoo without their permission and received no punishment). The second was because of the IRC issue. And now this.
As you can see, there seems to be a double-standard here, where other people exhibit the same (sometimes identical) behavior to Emoney, but they are still here posting and he's not.
And FWIW, I have never met emoney. I have no real allegiance to him. I like his posting style, I think his brand of humor is funny, and I like his taste in music (enabling me to discuss my favorite acts with him occasionally), but it's not like I lost a lifelong friend here. I do think what happened was unjust, though. Maybe it's my personality, but I don't think people should let negative comments bother them and I think people need to know there is a distinct difference between upsetting someone with malicious intent, and being a smart ass. Emoney was a smartass, a great one, in fact. But he wasn't malicious. He wasn't going after Phi as a person, he was making fun of a DJ he liked.
I like Eric Clapton more than any other act, ever. He's my #1. Rosko, for whatever God-forsaken reason thinks Clapton sucks (damn right I'm calling you out, buddy). We have had at least 5 conversations about it, and I make fun of him quite a bit. Know his reaction when I make fun of him? He laughs. Know my reaction when he makes fun of Clapton? I laugh.
LAUGH. Christ, you guys get so wrapped up in inforoo you think it's more than it really is, a discussion board to pass the 360 days until we get to go back to Bonnaroo. Territorial threads, middle-school-level popularity contest bullsh!t, favoritism, etc. is just a sad way for grown adults to spend their free time.
I hope emoney is allowed to post here again, and everyone can put this silly nonsense behind them. I know you'll rue the day that emoney is back on this board (if he's back at all), but clearly there are people who enjoy his presence here. I hope the mods take this into account when reviewing everything in this thread (and outside of it) and realize that this was an overreaction, but not one that can't be corrected.
This is a bit ridiculous. Emoney is a good poster at heart. This is coming from someone who has been made fun of by him (obviously in good fun) numerous times in chat.

I get what you're saying, but we don't moderate intentions, Zapp.
Ok first, please discuss all of your emoney grievances here, thanks.
Even though that's not the topic of this thread? If someone comes into The Solar Lounge to express a grievance related to emoney's banning they wouldn't think to come into this thread, would they? It might cause confusion and/or more threads being made concerning the matter and cluttering the forum.
