Just started watching this. I wasn't in love during the first few episodes but I'm at episode 8 of season 1 now and I'm starting to really really enjoy this show. Anyone else watch it?
Yeah that's where I'm at. It's great, i really enjoy it. It doesn't have that same hold over me as Breaking Bad where I could just watch it for hours straight. I swear I watched the 3rd season of that show in like 3 sittings.

Just started watching season 1 last week. I'm only four episodes in but enjoying it enough so far. A couple people have told me by the latter part of season 1 it really gets going. I see MC said the same thing too.
I just had my cable turned back on for this show. It did take me a couple episodes to get into it the first season, but after that I was addicted. Im super glad it's back, and happy to see that it's still keeping my attention. Hamm/Draper's pretty easy on the eyes too, so that helps.

I don't know about next week... I mean, it's going to happen for sure. But next weeks seems soon, no? I'll go with week after that. I'm assuming Price is Right Rules here: closest without going over.
New copywriter is still in the gray for me. I'm hoping he gets Peggy's story rolling. Her dynamic with Don was so great and that's certainly lacking now.

it took me until the end of the first season to be really hooked; after i finished that, i bought the second and third seasons on dvd and watched them in like two days, haha. i'll never look back.
i am way more interested in don and megans relationship than i thought i would be, so i'm not looking forward to when he eventually cheats on her. new copywriter is interesting and will probably hook up with peggy before the end of the season.
also how about the betty storyline? i couldn't have been more surprised how they handled her real life pregnancy weight gain.

I agree with all of this!!!
It took me an episode or two, but then I was hooked!
Oh man Betty! I knew she was preggers in real life but all the pictures I had seen of her she didn't look like she had gained that much. But last night I just kept staring at the screen going, "That is the best 'weight gain' makeup I have ever seen!!!"
Yeah, I sort of like Megan more than I thought I would. But I totally expect Don to cheat on her...but not until the last episode or two of this season. I feel like we will build up to it. But it is bound to happen...that sly ol' dog.
I think Peggy is my least favorite....don't know why, but she is. I definitely agree that her story line has fallen by the wayside lately.
I read an article on the fat suit they put on Betty, similar to how they did Peggy's weight gain in season 1 - and how they had to hire a body double for the bathtub scene. Nutzo!!! It's hard to see her with that much chub on her chin, since she's usually so thin in RL.
Im excited to see how this Joan thing works out too - her being a mother is so.... ANTI-Joan. Obvs shes a "mother" to all the boys and girls at the office, but in a stern, kind of drill sergeant way. And now she's all weepy and was even taking poop from her mom... that's not the Joany I love. ***SPOILER*** SOMEONE has to find out that it's Roger's kid. Has to. So that'll be juicy too.

i really hope they don't kill her husband off before he comes back to NY, because the moment he realizes that's not his kid will be so, so deliciously dramatic. either roger or joan is definitely going to crack and tell someone. also, what's up with megan being all weird around joan? maybe something happened between don and joan and it's just going to come out now. can't wait.
i love peggy and she usually has good storylines; not impressed with her this season so far. i'm sure she'll get more interesting though.
yeah that fat suit was one of the most convincing prosthetics i've ever seen. peggy's was good, but they really have come far by way of makeup on this show comparing the two. it's better than a lot of film fat suits i've seen, too. just amazing.

I thought something was up between Megan and Joan when I first watched the premiere, but on second viewing it seemed like Megan was still just shaken up from her break room encounter with Harry Crane. Which was hilarious.

I think they're gonna go somewhere with the Don/Joan thing but in true Mad Men fashion, it will be completely out of left field and surprise us all. I'm not even going to bother trying to figure it out yet....I can never predict what happens on this show! What an awesome problem to have.

Yes, you're right. It was just a fever dream. I missed the first 2 minutes and thought he had hit that prior to the dream, but upon further reflection remember the real event was from a Looooong time ago. Guess they had to fit in Don sleeping with someone SOMEhow.

Everything with Peggy and Joan was awesome. I loved how they presented Joan/Greg/baby as a superficially happy family before reminding everyone that, wait, this guy is the worst. That accordion was a perfect callback. Peggy should always be drunk or high, Elizabeth Moss plays it so well.

Christina Hendricks is so unbelievably gorgeous...I was watching this last episode with my guy friend and when she opened the oven wearing the bra you could see the eyes bulge out of his head, hahaha. That last ep was amazing, definitely the best of the season and one of the best of the whole series IMO. I like when they mix horror and humor, and this episode was definitely super dark and had a really creepy feel to it.
Now, question: we know Don didn't really kill that woman obviously, and it's up for debate if he slept with her (I think it was part of the dream but there are some people on the internet who think he did sleep with her...so I guess it's up for debate?), but did she actually come to his house? Was that him dreaming as well? I need to re-watch the episode to make sure but I feel like that could have actually happened.
^^^YEAH!!! that guy WAS the worst!!! Way to call him out on it too Joan. LOVE her character. I love Christina Hendricks and her bangin' bod too.
He really was the worst, I've always hated that creep. But it's a testament to this episode that his return initially seemed like a good thing. That relationship has been flawed from the outset, but Joan always tried to make the best of it. This episode did a fantastic job of making that optimism seem believable, then yanking it away and definitively establishing that Greg is an irredeemable piece of shit. Loved that kiss off scene, and I was shocked that she actually mentioned that horrible, effed up thing he did a few seasons back. <3 Joan <3
As for the dream....I don't think it's meant to be ambiguous. Just rewatch the scene where Don wakes up and Megan brings him breakfast. She says she came straight home and he was already out cold, meaning he wasn't home alone long enough for any of that to have actually happened.
It's really great how Pete started out wanting to BE Don, then was like quack that since I can't be Don I will BEST him!... and now he's just becoming the crappy version of old Don - and he still can't even get that right, he had to go to a whore house just to cheat on his wife. I feel bad for Pete, he can't really catch a break.

Yeah, Pete Campbell can't even do adultery smoothly. Outside of Peggy, he's had to resort to whorehousing and nanny raping. Not even the impressionable high schooler was biting.
I'm liking new judgmental Don. Between last week's episode where Megan called him on his shit, and this week where he was disgusted by Pete's whoring, it looks like the season is forcing Don to re-evaluate his past behavior. His narrative has always been "I was unhappy in a hollow suburban marriage/existence, so I cheated." But that's not really the whole truth. As Megan rightly pointed out, Don's justifications only go so far. At a certain point, it's a reflection on his character and his appetites. Now Don is watching Pete cheat on Trudy for the same reasons he tells himself he cheated on Betty, and he finds it disgusting. He's still convinced that his situation was different (he and Betty weren't meant to be, but Pete should hold on to Trudy), but I'm thinking the rest of the season puts some pressure on that reasoning.
Lane ftw. I love that character and Jared Harris' performance, but it sometimes seems like they don't know how to use him. Glad to see him get an episode like this one.
