I was at the lineup announcement party last night...what a great time. This also gets better and better. Was talking to Jay Sweet who runs the event and he said the collaborations are going to be off the charts. Jim James is sitting in or playing w 7 bands. M Ward will probably show up for a little MOF action during Conor's set. ..and also the late night stuff witih Deer Tick is going to be insane. They host 3 nights at the Newport Blues Cafe.. I was there 2 nights last year and there were surprise sets by Dawes, Middle Bro, Felice Brothers, Trampled by Turtles, M ward. For like $12 in a tiny bar. Also congrats to my friend Joe Fletcher for making the lineup..you all should check him out!
this will be my first time there...im reading that you cant drink there cause its a state park?
They sell beer and wine but you can only drink them in segregated areas and can't leave the area with them. That's what we call the beer prisons. There are two beer prisons, one at the harbor stage and one at the fort stage. One of the pics shows the harbor stage from one of the beer prisons. Bummer but at least it's not dry and you can hear the music from them if you want to chill and down a few.
These were the same two questions I was going to ask. This will be my first time and the lodging costs are the only thing that worries me at this point. Any info would be greatly appreciated. This lineup is closer to what I was expecting/hoping for forecastle. Not that I dislike the Forecastle lineup. Its just that this lineup is PERFECT!
and are there any campsites or cheap hotel options around there? hotels in the immediate area are quacking expensive.
You are welcome to stay at Quack Club. We live about 15 miles away from Fort Adams and there will be a bunch of people here. We'll have an assortment of air mattresses and floor space and we have a yard to camp in if you prefer and weather cooperates. Newport is expensive all summer and during the fests it's even worse. Quack Club is very inexpensive.
Pulled up some pics from last year for the new folks to the thread. We did quack club in August last year. This year we will combine it with NFF.
Quack Club:
Backyard:
Be forewarned - NY fans here:
Bunny does chocolate vomit
Unofficial quack club family photo
Dinner:
NFF
No problem getting up front for pics at wharf stage
Cival Wars
Closer view of wharf stage
The elusive northern wook
Cave singers laying down some tracks - well - in the cave
This is the whole crowd at Trampled - plenty of room! The fort beer prison is in the back to the left just behind the last white unmbella - so even with the stage to the left
To answer the "What is Quack Club' question... It is when a bunch of Inforoosters get together in Warren, RI at the house above and have a blast! Last year the gathering was in August. This year we will combine it with NFF.
So basically it's an open invitation to Inforoosters to stay at the house for the weekend so you don't have to pay the outrageous lodging fees. We will have tons of food, plenty of booze, though we encourage folks to bring their specialties if its out of the norm. We'll post the list of what we have stocked before hand. And of course Quack Club is corn friendly.
Last year we did a big dinner on sat night. Not sure how this will play out with going to NFF. Maybe we will do dinner friday night - then crank up the grill for sat/sun. Breakfast is buffet style with plenty of Bacon!
There's plenty of sleep spaces indoors and out, long as you dont mind roughing it with air mattresses and bunking next to or with ?? There's room out back for tents as well if you desire.
Once we have a handle on the count of peeps, we will work out logistics or getting over to NFF and back.
Any one have any insight as to what day MMJ would most likely play, in the event I can only make it down for a day and have to pick one?
If you go to the NFF lineup and click on it it will break down to who is playing on what day. No more detail than that yet. MMJ will be the Sat closer but New Multitudes is playing Sun so you can get another Jim James fix.
Haha! That particular version of the family photo makes me giggle. I am a little baffled by the Idio/Katy/Groz corner of the photo, but it was obviously funny if you look at MizV.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

That's quack club... ;D
Wow, this sounds almost too good to be true. So this is really an open invitation, even if I've never met any of you guys? I am driving up solo from PA, so not only would I be heavily indebted to you guys for offering a place to stay, the fact that I would be able to make friends beforehand, and have a bunch of cool ppl to chill with at the festival is mindboggling to me. My friends suck so I am used to doing shows solo, but festivals are so much better when you are not alone. You guys seem incredibly cool and gracious, its great to know there are ppl like you out there. I look forward to meeting everyone
You are certainly welcome, Soto! I pretty much lurked with the occasional post until Quack Club last year. The people in the photo above were the first Inforoosters I met on the day I met them! Now they are family!
And the food and booze are even better than you are imagining.

There are cheaper hotels a little bit farther out. I stayed at the Best Western Mainstay newport last year. Really nice for a Best Western...hotel bar, big rooms and a pool and it came to about $370 for sat and sun. It is about a 5 min cab or less into town. there are also a few places on that strip..pretty similar.
The best deal I found in Newport was at the Roadway inn.
For Fri/Sat/Sun night's it came out to right about $500
Not too bad with 4-5 people splitting the room.
Compared to many other hotels in the area this is by far the cheapest I found.
It's less than a 15 minutes drive to the venue.
Not as cheap as I was hoping for but all in all I am happy.
And super excited or an AWESOME lineup.
speaking from experience. You do NOT want to drive to the venue. the town is gridlock all weekend. you just need to get to a water taxi and take that over.
when can we get tickets to those newport blues cafe/deer tick shows? is it going to be friday-sat-sun nights?
yes all three nights. Last year they only booked 2 nights but then at some point during the fest they added a third. Deer Tick hosts this for some type of charity so whenever they set it up and figure who is playing they will post it on their FB.

In the yearly contest to determine which festival is winning - so far this year it is Newport Folk Festival. Congratulations to the lucky ones who get to attend. wow.
Last year on saturday the guys left a little later than planned and it took a bit over an hour to get in. Sunday we left warren maybe 10- 10:30ish and did not get into any traffic until about 5 minutes from the gate. Not a bad wait at all - as long as you avoid downtown. We sat a while getting outside of the park gate sunday night. BE prepared and stock the vehicle properly.
We will go with the majority once we start planning - but leaning heavily towards a drop off/pick up saturday - then into town to the pub.. with none of us driving. ;D

I love the idea of no one driving! And so I assume the above means taxi?
