Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Seems a little big to bring into Centeroo, no? I'm trying to find something like this but on a smaller scale. Those mid-day sets are a b!tch when you're stuck in the sun. Especially since I have never felt heat like I did at Roo this year. The warmest we had this summer in Calgary was about 35C (95F) but that lasts about 2 hours and happens one day a year. This year the warmest we'd seen before Bonnaroo was 25C (77F).
This reminds me of a group of people at the O.C.M.S. show this past Roo. They had 7 or 8 chairs similar to these set up near the VIP stands and it was a pretty big inconvenience for people trying to get past and see the show. Chairs like these are not meant for festival settings unless you are willing to take a very back seat to the show. Booo to these chairs and people who buy them!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

meh! (grumpy old man noise)
Good for the What stage in the back. I agree. I don't like seeing them under tents or in the main sections of the Which stage but people will do what they want.
Didn't think you were even suppose to bring in chairs/umbrellas to Centeroo? I did see a security guy refuse to let a girl in who had a large umbrella with her. Anyhoo, I would be okay with folks bringing in chairs, as long as they stayed at the back of the venue, as noted above. If you are going to take a breather and sit down, then this is a great way to get off the hard ground a bit but you shouldn't be in the middle of everyone who wish to stand and enjoy the show. This will greatly increase your chances of getting stepped on. I feel the same way with the umbrellas. The large ones impede the view of others behind you attempting to see the stage if your standing in the middle of a crowd with one. If you have to have one to beat the sun, then I would recommend a small one. Dang sun is brutal.
Is this "Completely Obnoxious" ? I think not. I have in the five years attending never saw people with chairs blocking views or being in the middle if the crowd. And if they were could you not see over them? Our chair / umbrella set up.
You are extremely lucky you got EITHER of those in. They turned me away with a chair lower to the ground than that. I think it has to be a foot off the ground or lower. And NO umbrellas.
This is what I'm rocking this year.
Take it in before those long stretches of What/Which shows then return to camp before late night.

I looked a those but the whole point of having a chair is being able to lean back and take a load off, not have to "balance" my ass off the ground the whole time.

One of the reasons I loved All Good on the mountaintop was that the venue was quite sloped. We were allowed to bring these:
And everyone had the common courtesy to set up towards the top if they had these so they weren't in anyone's way (you could still easily sit behind one of these if you just a few feet back and it wasn't a problem). These were most effective during the hottest part of the day when the sun is really high. The sun would set just to the left of the main stage so once it got down so far they wouldn't help (but by then it wasn't hot enough to need shade).
The logistics of this would be really difficult at Bonnaroo... mostly because a lot of people at Roo do have that "I'll do what I want" attitude (and the lack of a slope on the What field). If that attitude wasn't so prevalent then I could see them allowing these half shade tents at the back of what field only. It sure would be nice to get some shade and still be able to see some shows. Oh well, I guess that's what you get when you have a festival of 60K+.
Side note: it'll be interesting to see if AG still allows these at the new venue since it won't be sloped like the mountaintop.

I wasn't trying to be offensive or directing my posts at anyone. Hope you didn't take it that way. I was just explaining my opinion on the matter simply based on my experience. If you guys have made it work then that's great and I'm envious of you. The sun can be burtal and anyway to help alleviate it is great. Best of Roo to you and everyone else.
Oh man. If you really need an umbrella (as opposed to generous amounts of sunscreen, copious hydration and the sense of when you should find some shade), please bring a small one. If you HAVE to bing a big one, stay away from the stages.

I was thinking of one of those backpack type chairs this year, but I don't know. I like to stand for some shows and get up in the crowd, so it would be a drag to carry around. On the other hand, there is nothing like finding a good place to sit and relax (yes, in the back of which/what and not in the middle of the action).

Being as I am closing on 50 and I am usually in centeroo from noon until 4am or so having a chair is a must. I found a great one at costco for about 25. It sits low to the ground, folds up like a backpack, lightweight, has an insulated pouch, drink holders. Made by Tommy Bahama. when I sit I sit way in the back but usually its in back pack mode and I am standing and rocking along, but between bands it's great to sit for a bit under a nice shade tree. No problems bringing it in, sits maybe 6 inches from the ground.

I saw quite a few people last year with the Tommy Bahama chairs and I was soooo envious. They looked very comfortable.
Anything can be accomplished with the proper engineering. If you make it thick enough it will survive. I would be able to do the equations for you but I skipped my summer session of Thermodynamics to go to Roo. Still got an A but don't remember anything from it except for Q= a bunch of H's
