This probably belongs in the confessions thread, but I love radiohead so much that I feel like I need to wait for the perfect time for a first listen of their albums... I owned but didn't listen to TKOL for many months (maybe even close to a year). Hoping the right time presents itself much sooner for A Moon Shaped Pool.

Radiohead will be joined on their shows by the following supporting artists: Holly Herndon in Amsterdam, Paris, London & Lyon, Dawn of Midi in New York and Shabazz Palaces in Los Angeles

So Pitchfork gave A Moon Shaped Pool a score of 9.1, which is the highest score they've given out since Tame Impala's Currents was given a 9.3 in July of last year.
While one publication's opinion should never be that big of a deal, I was pretty interested in theirs. I didn't realize how many of my favorite albums last year that they gave high scores.

AMSP is better than Currents.
Again, take critic reviews with a grain of salt, but the Metacritic score is up to 89. That's the best of any album in 2016 other than Lemonade (93). Their user rating score is at 9.5 now, which is the highest of any other album in 2016 by half a point. Those scores tend to trend downward as time goes on, but it's currently the 5th most user reviewed album this year. Statistically speaking, it will be very difficult for that 9.5 to drop very far at this point. Lemonade has an 8.5 user rating.
Long story short, we aren't crazy or alone in thinking the album is pretty awesome. It should end up on a whole lot of end of year lists.

I say this with peace and love, PEACE AND LOVE:
Not getting this record the way everyone here and everyone else and all the critics are getting it. To me it's mostly a series of pretty soundscapes with Thom talking/singing over them.
Not really hearing any songs here, just sounds. Which if that is what its supposed to be, that's fine. Don't get me wrong, music doesn't necessarily have to be songy for me to like it, but it has to make me feel something. I'm not feeling anything from this record. No real sense of wonder or beauty, no anger or fear, it's just kind of there. It feels bland.
I understand my feelings may change down the road as I keep hearing these songs, but right now it just ain't happening for me. Glad y'all are enjoying it and feeling stuff though.

I agree with this. I like parts of songs, and at any given time during the record you could ask me if I like what I'm hearing at the moment and I'd probably say yes - because it is indeed pretty and well-orchestrated, but it's not stirring my soul.
We all have bands and albums that we love and ones that we just don't like. Tastes are different and there is nothing wrong or weird about it. I've never really liked Kanye and I'm not a big fan of the new James Blake. To each their own

Yeah you kinda put it into words for me. I definitely expect it to get a lot better with time but right now Burn the Witch, Ful Stop, and Glass Eye are the only ones that I actually listen to repeatedly. But I didn't love Currents when it came out last year and now it is one of my favorites of all time. So again, this album probably just needs more digestion by me

I love you, Katy Perry. I wish you were my girlfriend

I think you will be quite disappointed that I look like a college-aged guy without makeup on

I kinda look at it as a collection of songs that almost would have worked individually on some of the previous albums. Some of these have slowly been written/composed over years.
I'm quietly excited to have Identikit on my table soon. Identikit has been around for a little while now.
