I fell asleep right before the lead acting awards were announced... it was nice to see Hugo take home a healthy amount of tech awards, but I wasn't invested in any movie in the running aside from it... whatever. The Artist seems like one big gimmick, to me... but I'll give it a shot, opinions seem to be pretty divided on it.
The Artist to me was more or less a gimmick, a very well done gimmick. I'm fine with it winning the awards it did. Jean Dujardin definitely deserved it more than Pitt or Clooney, and its good that the Academy recognized that. The best part was Meryl Streep winning Best Actress. It's well-deserved surprises like that that keep me interested in Oscar, despite all of its flaws and falseness.
So thats two in a row for Harvey Weinstein. I loved that lackadaisical, half-arsed high-five he gave that french producer after The Artist won best-picture. You would think after two years in a row of getting Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture your high-five would be a little more enthusiastic.
