At first I thought the Beach Boys were just money hungry when they announced this tour, but apparently they're really bringing the energy to their shows (or as much energy as 5 elderly men can bring). I'm looking forward to singing along to Good Vibrations with all of you beautiful people
Yeah the playlists that have been coming out look pretty good to me, and the reports from the shows are encouraging. But I know about zero of their catalog so my thoughts on the playlists don't mean much. I've gone from somewhat indifferent about this show to thinking I'll catch it. I wonder if the rest of their new album will shape up as good as that single.
They were damn fantastic last night. You guys are going to have a blast.
Indeed! We randomly scored free entrance from someone working the show, and I was pretty blown away by how good they are. Seriously those guys still got it! I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing them now, whereas before last night I was just kinda meh-curious.

How is that even possible???
I mean I know the same couple dozen songs that everyone in our culture knows. Nothing but the hits, baby. I've heard y'all mention Pet Sounds a lot so maybe I'll dive into that one day, but their best of type stuff is good enough for me given my level of interest in them.

I think they could easily fill a 2 hoour set with songs you know all the words to and heard all your life! Last night they did a killer version of "And Then He Kissed Me" but changed the lyrics to "And Then I Kissed Her". True story!
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

If you're planning on seeing them, you really need to listen to Pet Sounds before Bonnaroo. It could change your entire appreciation for the show.

And quite possibly your entire appreciation for music altogether. You should get on that.
I can't wait to see them at Bonnaroo. BUT Brian Wilson is there and doing more than you would expect most people would post stroke. But the back up band was who sounded like the beach boys, rather than Mike Love and BW. It kind of bummed me out. That said I'm still pumped for the show. I'm not gonna over analyze it. Hopefully it sounds right and I'll just squint my eyes so I can't tell BW is mostly behind the keyboard mostly to hide the fact he can barely move.
Bonnaroo 2005 Bonnaroo 2006 Daughter Born 2007 Raising Babies 2008 Is Tough and Expensive 2009 2nd Daughter Born 2010 We Are Losing Our Minds 2011 Bonnaroo 2012 (thank goodness for Grandma!)

Brian has not had a stroke. What you are seeing are the effects of serious mental illness, a psychiatrist some people would call abusive at best and varying medical treatments for mental illness over the years.
Brian used LSD and was later diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. Whether the drug brought on the illness or not, if he is like most people with serious mental illness he likely "self medicated" with anything he could for years. He had hallucinations and psychotic breaks in the true definition of the word.
I certainly can't speak to what treatments he would have received in the 70's. Odds are high that he has been on a variety of antipsychotics that have the undesirable effect of causing movement disorders, shuffling gate, facial tics or paralysis, or Parkinsons-like tremor.
His psychiatrisy Landy had him so overmedicated in the 1980 that he's likely had substantial brain damage.
Thanks for posting the set list guys. I was worried I was going to sit through "another one from the new album" which isn't bad IMHO but not why I want to see the Beach Boys
I saw them in St Augustine not too long ago, and this show far exceeded my expectations. I knew it was going to be good, but it was absolutely a GREAT show.
Ok, so someone explain or corroborate me on this. So before they played Be True To Your School, Brian Wilson mimics a plane noise and goes louder and louder and slowly goes to the ground and had members of the band pick him back up.
Did anyone else think that was bizarre and yet kinda of sad to see Brian Wilson go a bit senile on us?

Beach Boys were amazing! I had a bag of corn. a camelbak of gin and my best friends. God only knows made me tear up and I danced in the rain. Sun came out a bit during Kokamo.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

I wonder if there is video on this
There is, but yes like someone else said, it was Mike Love, my bad. Still bizarre as all hell.
