Hello all Infoorooers! I tried searching the forum and couldn't find any info on staying in a hotel. Anyone know how bad traffic is to and from the hotel, if there are shuttles offered, etc.? We did GA camping the first 2 years and volunteer camping the last 2 years. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm really leaning more towards staying in a hotel this year for some reason.
I met one person who did it and mentioned that it was a bit of a hassle trying to get back and forth, but for what they needed (I didn't ask what it was) they were satisfied.

Yeah I read all that. I was hoping that maybe someone on here has done it before and can say if it's worth it or not. I figured the biggest issue would be getting in and out.
one strategy I read on another forum is get a hotel, then catch shows from 5pm to 5am. I think you'd get your money's worth (need a sober driver though).
if I end up coming alone I'll do VIP, if my Phish tour buddies come we'll be in a hotel. is it wrong of me to hope they don't come so I can do VIP? I love them but don't relish the thought of commuting into bonnaroo everyday.

I do the VIP hotel package, which includes an hourly shuttle to and from the festival. I'm usually there on the farm from around noon to 2 or 3 a.m. I know (because people tell me all the time) that I'm missing something by not being onsite the whole time. But to be able to get 8 hours of air-conditioned quiet and a bed is worth it for me. If I were younger it'd be different. But I love my crappy little room at the HoJo Express.
My friend stays in a hotel because she needs the a/c, but I didn't even see her last year. I can ask her how it went, though. I think she camped one year and then did hotels the following two years.
This year, my friends and I booked a room in Murfreesboro the night before (wed, june 6) and the night after (sun, june 10) Bonnaroo. That way we can get much needed rest before and after driving about 16 hours. Last year we got there Wed night and were put in BFE, had to set up camp in the dark, and started the weekend off exhausted from our drive. We decided the long wait on Thursday morning will be worth a good night's sleep the night before. And we won't have to miss any late nights since we're camping on site during the festival. Just something to think about
We live about 15 minutes south of Nashville off I-24 and we do the day parking thing and crash at home. We enjoy the beauty of Bonnaroo more when rested.
I have done the hotel route. Murfreesboro is much cheaper, but its a little over a half hour drive each way. I end up on the farm from Noon to 2 am usually. AC, beds, and showers are nice... especially coming from cool weather into a grueling and hot weekend.
I have a friend that lives right up the road in Tullahoma and we always try to visit him before Bonnaroo. He's always there but I never see him. I think if we were to ever need a place to go during the festival it would be his house. I was pleasantly amazed at how close his house was. The first time we were there and the drove to the festival it was like drive, drive, and then there was the Holiday Inn.

I tell you what, I am also interested in timing when it comes to hotels, if anyone remembers from personal experience. Lets say you are staying in Murfreesboro: how much time would it take you from leaving the hotel to walking into centeroo? what with traffic and the walk and all that.

I would love the amenities of a hotel but I just can't leave the farm once I'm there. I wouldn't want to risk missing out on some music. I like to go in right around the time music begins and stay until I can't stand up anymore.

Ya exactly. If I had a hotel room I know I would be likely to sleep past noon and miss some good shows. Sleep is for the other 51 weeks of the year.

HA! I haven't had a good night sleep since 2001. My oldest daughter was born in 02. I've always said I will have a good night sleep the day the youngest is all grown up. So staying awake at Bonnaroo all night is no big deal for me. The only time I turned was lat year on Thursday because we left Buffalo at 7pm Wednesday and had our tent set up by Thursday at around 12(noon). And I was months pregnant. So by the time Thursday night came along I told my sister to come back and wake me in an hour. She tried and I told her to leave and bring me back an AREPA.

It's about 15-20 minutes from day parking to the Centeroo checkpoint. It's probably 30-40 minutes from day parking to Murfreesboro, depends on how fast you drive and if you're off Exit 78 or 81. On Friday and Saturday traffic in and out isn't bad. Sunday gets tough with people leaving, and Thursday with people coming in.

I've never missed an early afternoon set I wanted to see... due to oversleeping. I'd probably miss the late LN sets regardless cause I get tired out, the one I remember seeing is Gwar in 2010 - and even that was done by 3:45 am.

The late nights are what would worry me about taking a hotel. I tend to go to dawn at least one night, so I'm not sure if I would be up for driving after that regardless of how refreshed I would be by a good nights sleep the night before.

I reserve a hotel a year in advanced. If you're not in the best of shape, your body will bless you for not staying out in the field. Last year I had some peeps with me and we drove in around 4 everyday. We'd leave around 1 or 2 most nights and all we ever complained about was having sore feet....no exhaustion.....It was nice...I've stayed in an rv, and have camped in the field during one of the hottest roo's...If I had to pick what to do, I'd get a hotel. Oh and traffic...last year we were parked within 20 minutes of getting off the highway, no long lines. But good luck finding a hotel close by, I think I'd even get a hotel room in nashville if that was the only choice left.
