Sorry if this is an old article to most inforoosters but it kills me we are still seeing people post about how bonnaroo has sold out or sold its soul and all the nonsense they bring. Even if bonnaroo did get bought out by mtv (which won't ever happen) or anyone else of that matter its not about that. Its about all of us on here that know how to have a great time with great friends and always keep the bonnaroo spirit alive no matter who's running the show. So heres the article for those who speculate wrong, put that corn in your quackin pipe and s***e it.
I'm pretty sure it's the people who go to Bonnaroo that make it what it is. Obviously there's a lot of corporate sponsors but that helps keep the costs down. As long as the music is good, the food is good and the porta-potties aren't overflowing Bonnaroo will live on.
Thanks for the link and thread. The negativity gets tiresome. I particularly don't understand why people come on here to complain about the festival "selling out" and being too "corporate." Why expend energy decrying something you obviously don't like or support: I don't waste my free time going on the ICP board to complain about the Gathering of the Juggalos.
Sometimes people will complain to complain. If criticism is constructive then fine, but most of the time it is simply whining. The biggest complaint that I have seen about Bonnaroo that bothers me the most is people want more air-conditioning at roo. 1)its a OUTDOOR music festival in June in TN....it's going to be this side of the sun hot! 2) The stages are not closed in so fans are not realistic. It would just blow around the sand, dust and hot air. Plus it would interfere with the music I imagine. People just need to be a little more realistic about what Bonnaroo is and if they can't handle that then they shouldn't go. Just my opinion.

I agree with you completely, a lot of the time people underestimate things like the heat on the farm around that time of the year. They come un-prepared and it makes for a bad experience. Ive been over prepared all three years that ive experienced. Even though in 2010 we had ALL of our tarps rip at our campsite and not to mention we were in pod 8 with grass way past knee high. And to top it all off our campsite was infested with baby ticks, and boy was that an experience. But even that could not kill the great times, people just need to learn the extremes of the fest and to always be prepared for anything!
Wow shakedown! You sounded like you had a great time on the farm. I do appreciate you attitude about it all though. Tough time and still came out of it positive. Karma for you!
Excellent post! Every year people talk about MTV's presence and ownership of Bonnaroo and I always have to tell these people they have NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT! Now I can just refer them to this article. Saves me the headache of explaining to noobs.

I had to explain everything to a friend on Saturday night. He'd heard the MTV thing, so when another friend and I started talking about going to 'roo this year, he busted out the "I'd never go to Bonnaroo because MTV bought it." I proceeded to call him a dumb hippie, for all intents and purposes, and then laid down some facts to counter the bogus rumors. I can understand the "It's too big/crowded; It's too hot; it's too expensive; and similar arguments for people not going or wanting to go. The MTV thing is so darn baseless and moronic: If it was true, we wouldn't be getting the diverse SCI, Dr. John, Disco Biscuits, Old Crow, Kris Kristopherson, Black Angels, MMJ, Robert Plant type acts every year. We'd get a lot of pop'ish music. How isn't that obvious to people?
