James Iha has a new solo record coming out in March it seems. Since the Smashing Pumpkins he's done a lot to root himself in the music industry (stretch) look him up on Wikipedia and see the list of everything he's done.
could also use him in a Perfect Circle guess it's gonna be a long week...
go out on a limb and say tool they have played the roo before and i dont see why they wouldent play again they have played a few shows this year all ready and ive heard word a another album ?

Hmm, Chali 2na seems like a decent fit for the first half, but the only things I've seen mentioned to connect him to the second half of the clue just seem a bit...forced. Like, they're a bit in the "well yeah but you can make anything fit if you try that hard" category to me. He could very well be the answer, but I feel like if he is we might be missing at least part of the logic for the second half.

Hmm, the more I think about this the more I think Sarah was on the right track with the second half referring to someone Chali 2na would be performing with.
I haven't really been able to find anything about any already-known upcoming plans to tour with someone though, so we may have to start from scratch with the second half to figure out who it could be.
Only thing I can think of is Cypress Hill - if it was a Cypress/Cyprus play on words maybe? They've certainly got olives over there on Cyprus. But that's a bit of a stretch, I know. Just throwing it out there in case maybe someone else can connect it more strongly.
Edit: OH, also, I meant to say - thanks, everyone, for being good about keeping this clue organized! I was worried that when we got up to 9 there would be some confusion over last year's clue 9 thread having been bumped up, and then on top of that we had a double thread for this one - but y'all were awesome about not bumping either of them up! Relating fish to harmony - Intonations of notes can be flat, like a flounder. Maybe Jack White will go back to his rockabilly roots and perform a Flat Duo Jets retrospective? Or, maybe halibut or sole can be worked into something?
Took the olive thing to the logical place (skipping past the already-mentioned 'Noah' link). I'm not well-read in the biblical area, so bear with me:
Isaiah 11:1 "There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots"
I've seen the Jesse (father of David, Joseph, etc) tree called an olive tree, so the person who "thrives among the roots" could have one of these names.
Probably nothing, and a little convoluted, just my thoughts.

All i got was the bass part, the lowest tone of harmony....i looked into what thrives in olive roots and got nowhere. Only could come up with a roman biblical passage. Are we looking to hard into it? Is it not as literal as we think? These clues hurt my brain. btw there is no nectar in roots. so bump.

What does olive oil being the same thing as nectar have to do with thriving amongst the roots of an olive tree?
Olive oil is made from the olives, not the roots. Like I've said before, You can make most of these clues fit any band you want but if you have to stretch it this far then it's probably not the answer

the first thing that popped into my mind was noel gallagher's high flying birds. i mean an oasis is a body of water, fish swim in water, and noel quit oasis. also when i think of roots i think of the beginning, and olive tree (branch) for peace. when they were about to play on the night before the whole ordeal it was almost like the beginning of peace. i dont know, but i just thought i'd throw that out there.

2 years in a row happens all the time. 3 years in a row not so much. He is touring so it's not completely off the table tho.
