I was just thinking about how awesome that was this morning. Hopefully they'll do something special for Radiohead. Preferably involving The Creators Project.
I really dont see them toping it this year or any year to come. that was the coolest thing i have ever seen, but man do i hope they try and if they cant beat it then they should do it again with different colored lights maybe ones a little brighter!
I was just writing about this yesterday. I'm glad it's on so many minds still. Waiting for Arcade Fire to start and then having that happen out of nowhere was one of the greatest moments of my summer. What a spectacular sight.
Did we ever figure out what it was about? I think I remember reading someone say they thought it was viral marketing for 5 Gum.
I was there, it was amazing! But heres how ya top it.. Pretty much do the same thing again except this time instead of sparkles use tiny little lasers powered by button cell batteries and droped by parachutes and let them be green, red, and purple. These types of pointers are cheap enough that they could actually do it. Now imagine these things floating and twirling from above over the farm! 10s of thousands of them with some blinking, some on constantly, etc.

Last year was pretty amazing for me in the visuals category. The mission Incefly thing was one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Also seeing the UAV flying over the site Thursday night was unreal! Then to top that, the jet pack guy at flying above the Which Stage during during SCI was amazing!
I was sitting there waiting for AF to come on and the stars started falling! It was one of the coolest things ive ever seen. Gives me goosebumps watching that video still. Im happy I decided to show up early or else I would have missed it!!
I thought the Chinese lanterns were pretty cool too. I'd never seen them before but they added kind of a peaceful backdrop as they just floated into the night sky.
UAV is an unmanned aerial vehicle or flying machine thingy majingy operated by remote with no plot on board.
A friend and I saw the lanterns in 2010 and tried to set one off over a frozen lake a couple weeks ago. It took us forever to ignite, then the wind took it about five feet in the air and it got stuck in a little tree. Not very impressive.
Man we were all confused at Camp Inforoo when that stuff came down. I was not nearly sober enough to comprehend it. Really awesome, hope they do something even cooler this year.
Mission Icefly actually continued on for me throughout the year after bonnaroo. It was a huge alternate reality game with a interactive website game and dead drops in several cities around the country. I ended up chasing down one of the drops and as a result I got a Icefly statue for my house. There was lots of cryptology and puzzles involved as well as buying 15 or so certain packs a gum. All in all a great experience that started from me picking up a blinking fly off the ground at Bonnaroo.

I wish I had realized what this was. I thought it was just some cool light ploy for a marketing company or something. Are there any of those left? I'd start searching if I knew there's was one around here

There are no more currently but we are not certain if the game is truly over or not. Here is someone recap of most of the Mission Icefly event.
After Facility 5 ended in November we were told we would receive a token of appreciation in the mail. None of us have received this token yet. Also new gum packs are circulating with new codes not related to icefly in them. I would suggest following the linked forum and if phase 2 starts getting in on the ground floor.
