Now, just to throw it out there, I went to a festival in Bowling Green, KY the first weekend of October once and FROZE (Vector, too). As long as fires are allowed I'm probably in lol

I'm thinking the October weekend is out due to the thing in Chattanooga... going to post an updated weekend list in a minute...
But yes, fires are permitted. There are fire pits everywhere, as well as a huge pile of log to use for firewood if you can axe it into pieces ;D

Ok, below are the possible weekends for InfoCamp 2012 (yup I named it lol). If you want to go and there's a weekend that you aren't free that isn't already crossed off please speak up so I can cross it off the list. Also, if there's a weekend you would prefer... then lobby away
August 4-5Lollapalooza August 11-12 August 18-19 August 25-26 September 1-2Labor Day Weekend September 8-9Hopscotch September 15-16 September 22-23Music Midtown September 29-30Counterpoint October 6-73 Sisters Bluegrass in Chattanooga (FREE YONDER SHOW!) October 13-14(ACL & Harvest)
My first choice went out the window, but for a good cause (free Yonder show? yes, please!). So now I'm eyeing the September 15-16 weekend.
The more I think about it, I'm not opposed to doing this in August. You have to keep in mind that this is in the mountains.... way up in the mountains, so it will be quite a bit cooler than down here in Nashville. Plus there's not as much going on in August. Opinions?
Aug 18-19 would be OK but not ideal. The fall semester starts on Monday 8.20; since I missed the 1st day of classes last year due to travel plans (yay, Quack Club!), I've been expressly forbidden to repeat that no-show experience.
Aug 25-26 is my choice. I'll be in dire need of some nature chill time after that week's insanity.

Come on down y'all! Honestly, we're in Wilmington NC ~2 hrs from Raleigh, 1.5 hrs from Myrtle Beach. There's a seriously great campground in Myrtle, not rustic....http://www.pirateland.com/
Camping on the beach near me is harder because you have to have permission from the land owner and there are no amenities at the "public" locations
I went to Grayton Beach State park in the Florida panhandle in late April and it is a great place to camp. Its right on the sugar white beach and there is one mile of wide beach with no condos around. There is a very large dune lake in the park also. There are bikes and canoes to rent.
I should have mentioned, there's a group that puts on a couple of free festivals a year here on the beach. We haven't been, not kid friendly from what I've been told. You've probably never heard of the bands but heck, it's free. They usually do them in April and October but they've added a summer one. Of course it's the same weekend as your camping trip! I know I'll probably get smited for this, but I don't prefer the beach. I grew up in Florida and I *hate* sand. I don't like swimming in the ocean either, it scares me.
Gimme mountains, trees, and rivers over beaches any day.
Now if you want to take me on a cruise to somewhere tropical...

Believe it or not I don't love the beach either but this is where we are...I'd much rather be in Asheville or Hendersonville NC

Bump
This is only a little over 2 months away... let's get a tentative roll call. I'll get in touch with the campground in a couple of weeks to let them know we're invading

I would love to do this, especially since it's the weekend before my birthday. The only downside is that it's a 7 hour drive. I'm a definite maybe at this point.
Sarah, I agree on beaches! Only if somewhere tropical and I can see the ocean floor!
Now, who in the Nashville area would be interested in hiking Saturday? Not sure where everyone is on recovering from 'Roo. Radnor is southwest ish Nashville and what we're looking at. I haven't looked over maps but I know I won't be out there all day! Lol. Maybe a morning hike followed by lunch? Anyone? Bueller?
OK y'all, don't shoot me, but I think I'll pass on this for 2 reasons:
1. It's a hellishly long way to drive just for a quick camping trip that isn't a long weekend; and 2. This is the same weekend as the Southern Brewer's Festival on the Chattanooga riverfront (and Toubab Krewe is playing for free!) so there ya go.
If anybody else wants to join me for the Brewer's Fest, mi casa es su casa!

I'd love to, but I'm afraid to even try at this point. I'm still trying to recover from being sick and the way my feet reacted to Bonnaroo, I'd say I better not chance it. It sucks because I like Radnor. Here's the map:
I'd stay away from the South Cove Trail and the Ganier Ridge Trail... when they say "strenuous" they mean it. The South Lake Trail is a pretty difficult "moderate" because of the quick change in elevation, but it's less than a mile so it's over pretty quick. The Lake Trail is pretty and very flat. I'm not a fan of the paved part (the road part on the south side of the lake). That part is always really crowded.
I'm always down for lunch noms though
Oh, and it looks like it's going to be very hot this weekend so if you guys do hike, please be careful
