On June 5th, 2012 Venus will pass directly between earth and the sun, we will see the distant planet as a small dot gliding slowly across the face of the sun. Historically, this rare alignment is how we measured the size of our solar system. www.transitofvenus.org/
Observers in North America see it the evening of June 5th.
This will be the last transit of Venus to occur in your lifetime.
Some of us will be at home packing, some of us will be on the road headed to Manchester. But as all of us take a look at the sky, and stare directly into the Sun , we will have a chance to observe something that no one of us will ever see again.
There's some metaphors and heartfelt poop (<<hhaha swear filter)in there somewhere, but I'm not Shakespeare.
Just thought this was pretty cool, it'd be cooler is it were a day or two later.
This is so very cool! Very big -- Venus turns knowledge to wisdom and brings harmony to opposing parties, fostering love and compassion for all beings with the knowledge that we're all made of the same mold.
We can expect to see Sherrie volunteering and large clusters of people engaged in conversation where they both concede that their opposing musical tastes are equally valid, and then go hold hands at Skrillex.

Let's sacrifice a wook for the occasion! I have been watching Apockalypto a lot lately and have been standing around fancying myself a Mayan Priest. Relax I know just the right ritual!
1-1-12 Bassnectar NYE SHOW! 1-21-12 G. Love and Special Sauce 3-1-12 Radiohead 3-9-12 Experience Hendrix 5-15-12 Jack White @ The Ryman 6-7-12 Bonnaroo 6-19-12 Roger Waters presents "THE WALL" 7-7-12 Ringo Starr's 72nd Birthday Party Extravaganza at the Ryman
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I saw the last transit in 2004. The sun was rising while it was happening, so there was no glare.
DO NOT look directly at the sun at full brightness. Use a welder's glass, or poke a pinhole in a piece of cardboard and look at the projected image as the light passes through.
These can be pretty awesome and hella confusing for people who don't know what it is. Depends on visibility (angle of sun, cloudiness, lightness, etc) but the one on Thursday evening should be fantastic....68 degrees elevation with 6 mins of Space Station visibility. Also, Saturday at 4 in the morning during the UM late night, 78 degrees. Sounds like a great time to trick someone into thinking they saw a UFO.

Party like it's 1999!!!
Peace.
If I was going to party like it was 1999, I would be 11 years old stealing sips from my mothers wine coolers.
