Greetings, everyone. This year will be my first on the farm, looking forward to a great time.
I'm curious how easy it is to get from stage to stage. The only music festival I've been to is Orlando Calling, and the turnout was so small it was easy to go from stage to stage and not have any trouble getting fairly close to the stage.
Looking at the mock lineup thread, I'm curious how easy it is to get from show to show.
Am I better off not going from stage to stage, or is it feasible with the crowds to go back and forth without too much difficulty getting a decent view.

Some shows you will be able to get close others, not so much. Its pretty easy to bounce around from show to show. First trip it may take a day or 2 to get your directions straight. Then after that you never forget how to get where.
Yeah it's really random. It's pretty bad at night though going from a headliner at the What back to one of the other stages/tents and then back to the What again because everyone's doing the same thing. Most of the time it's fine though.
Does anyone remember those wooden pallets or planks they had over that little drainage water ditch coming to the What stage? That was a nightmare last year and I felt like I was being cattle herded over that thing. That was probably the worst of it, I hope they fix that problem this year.

Fixing that would make things a lot easier going between What and Centeroo.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Just walk through the muck, you softees.
To answer the op question, it's really entirely random. Bouncing around during the daytime is never an issue. Like someone mentioned, the crowd has a mass exodus after the What headliner, so things get really bogged down. If you have a late night you REALLY want to close for, you are probably better off leaving the headlining set early.
Late night is really a roll of the dice. You can have an easy time bouncing from some of the lesser-attended sets, or get stuck by the stage at Lil Wayne (like me) and take 15 minutes to get out of the crowd and miss some of Big Boi.
When you're there, you'll get an idea of what the crowds are like and just judge for yourself.
I think it is real easy to get from show to show. The Other Tent > What Stage is the longest walk, but still is not bad. If you are seeing a lot of shows and they are right after one another it might be hard to get close to the stage (or at least take you longer to do so). For the most part it is fairly easy. The stages and tents are not as far way from each other as you would think

If you are like me and don't really care about the headliners you are in luck. Only late night What stage show I went to last year was Eminem and I've regretted it ever since.

From show to show seems to be pretty easy. As others have said, it can be difficult to get close sometimes.
The other thing to consider is campsite to show movement. I am not complaining (I met some of my favorite people on the walks), but it can take some time getting from some of the farther out sites to centeroo.

Yeah prime time What stage back into Centeroo should be the only spot that slows you down. Use Thursday to get your bearings inside Centeroo and you'll be fine after that

Thanks everyone for the responses. Since it's my first time, I plan on spending my afternoon Thursday walking around just getting the lay of the land.
Glad to hear getting around isn't too hard. Not a surprise that it can be congested after the headlining acts let out. But it's good to hear getting around from tent to tent or the which stage won't be much of a challenge.
If you want a good spot for a show, show up right as the set before it is ending, and walk up as everyone is leaving. -OR- Get there whenever and just hang in the back at first. Nearly every set last year I went to had people leaving throughout. Deerhunter being a great example. Showed up literally right as the first song started, tent was packed out the arse. Not even 15 minutes later I could easily walk halfway into the tent and then some more if I really wanted to.
and Flanzo has it right for the latenights. Really just depends on who and where. I find that saturday late latenights (2am and later) are usually very easy to walk around because so many people are just spent and have gone to bed or just lay out and chill in the very back at that point in the night and the weekend in general. Ghostland in 08, moe. in 09, and sts9 in 11 were all full, yet spaced out, making for very easy and effective crowd navigation.
Jbprez is right. Just relax and hang back for the start of a show. People will be crowding forward for the first few songs, then the tide will reverse. Once it reverses, you can get close.

It's like rush hour traffic. If you depart The What just as Radiohead finishes to go see Skrillex at The Which, it will take thirty minutes and the stages are right next to each other. If you leave 20 minutes early, it's a five minute walk... tops.
Or if some one gives you a special cookie at 2am and you're at Shpongle and you're heading back to camp, it will take three hours. All depends my friend...

You didn't even bother to see Arcade Fire?
Not my cup of team my friend.. I was up front waiting on Nectar that night I think
How close you get really depends upon how badly you want to be close...get there early enough and occupy the spot (if you drink much beer you're in trouble.., and wait.
Getting from show to show....there's no way you'll see them all, but I can guarantee if you go with an open mind, you'll have the time of your life and will want to be there year after year....don't sweat it, you'll find your groove by Friday!
Reminds me of a Siddhartha saying
I can think, I can fast, and I can wait......Happy roo all
I must agree with the post above. I wanted to see Matt and Kim really bad last year and waited for four hours just to make sure I was front row. It was a bit early but if you don't want to see anyone during that time I suggest it. I did the same for The Black Keys, only I waited 5 hours instead of 4.
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
Getting from show to show while you're in Centeroo can be a little tricky, but not too bad. The real pain is getting from your campsite to the show in time. Your "commute" will be anywhere from 5 - 40+ minutes. My experience camping with friends is that often you'll get the "wait just a minute" line from people going with you. Make sure you give yourself more time than you think you'll need when making the trek from the campsite. The security line, line to get water, line to get beer, and the search for where to stand can and will take an unbelievable amount of time.
Make sure that you decide ahead of time a few can't miss shows for the weekend. I usually only have 4 or 5 of these. These shows are the ones where you WILL absolutely be there on time with a few minutes to spare. Other than that, just go with the flow...

yep, this is what I did my first Bonnaroo as well. Spent about 2 hours just wandering Centeroo, getting my bearings and lettnig it soak in that you're really there.

And if it is one of those shows that you want to see that your friends keep saying "just a minute" tell them you will meet them at a meet up point some time later. We did that last year, our meet up point was the brewer's tent in front of the woodchuck table. If you went to a show by yourself then wanted to meet up with some one, you would just have to wait there for fifteen minutes before some one in the group would walk by and then we would be back with our friends again. The good thing about meeting at the Brewer's tent is that you can also still see/hear part of the show on the which while you wait.
I was on the rail 11 times last year, never had to camp for one and I refuse to push my way up closer. The only shows I wasn't able to get close to were Mumford and The Strokes. It all comes down to time management. My philosophy is don't be a cow. When you see everyone herding in one direction just remember it will probably be faster to go around them than with them. I always try to leave a show early too and by early I mean I can still hear them finish. That 45 seconds to a minute head start can mean a lot. When a show ends getting out can be slower than turtles stuck in peanut butter.
What walks always suck. I usually end up leaving before the end of those sets to avoid chaos. I dont really remember other stages/tents being a problem. Maybe which after mumford and buffalo Springfield
Last year I was 7 months pregnant. I was in Access. On Friday night I got "bumped" around enough that I got mad at Bonnaroo. It get kind of crazy at night. Pleople sto watching out for eachother and just try to get to where they want to be.
I chalk it up to people are finally able to walk more than 50 feet without sweating, and they have either started drink once the son is down or they have been drinking and are getting their second wind, or they can simply not see the person in front of them because the sun isn't beating down on them.
But for whatever reason I've noticed people are mor considerate during the day. At night they just want to get where they are going. I might have been guilty of this my first few years at Bonnaroo but after I was there pregnant twice and I brought my kids there I' much more aware of my surroundings.
So while I'm not going to be pregnant or with my children this year I will do my best to respect the people thatare either less able than me or smaller(not likely cause im short) than me.
I think if people are more willing to be aware of their surrounding then it will make for an easier Bonnaroo.
Ok.....maybe this post would be better in the dunen thread. But I'm pretty sure it somewhat answers the original question.

Ahh, that's why I end up walking in circles late night
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
