Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I went to Roo in 2010 and did the GA camping. Needless to say, it was the worst experience ever!! The music was worth the heat but the 6 a.m. sun w/o air conditioning was not! Any who, I have 2006 Chevy Equinox LT FWD and I am looking to rent a camper trailer for this years Bonnaroo. Are camper trailers allowed? I have read a zillion posts but I cannot seem to figure it out. I have no problem paying for the RV pass on top of the GA tix that I already bought.
Any advice on obtaining a trailer hitch (need to get one), type of camper trailer I should rent, etc would be greatly appreciated!
The maximum towing capacity for your car is 3500lbs. When you figure out what kind of trailer you will be towing, you must know how much it weighs and what size ball hitch it requires, then add the correct sized hitch attachment to the item above via the drop-down menu on the ordering page. You will also need a trailer wiring kit. They run around $25.
If you tow anything to Bonnaroo, you must have an RV pass and camp your trailer in the RV area.
There are two very prominent threads on this very page that, combined, have 22 pages worth of info on bringing an RV (which includes trailers) to Roo. Please read every page, use Google, phone a friend, etc.
If the question I mentioned above is NOT what you were trying to figure out, I am not quite sure how to help you. Good luck fellow Rooer.
-With a rating of 3500 pounds you will not be able to tow any hard sided camping trailer.
-You couple possibly tow a small (10' box) pop-up camper provided it has air conditioning. I do not know where you live but here in the northeast renting a pop-up with air conditioning is not common.
-If you decide you will be renting a pop-up the dealer you will be renting it from can most likely install the hitch, wiring and brake controller (trailers over 1,000 pounds are required to have brakes in most states).
Note: The wiring kit that the above posted directed you to will not work with a brake controller, you will need a seven pin connector.
-After all of that you will need to rent a (or purchase) a generator to run the air conditioning.
Hope this will get you started and write back if you have any more questions.
Needless to say, it was the worst experience ever!!
I wouldn't say calling Bonnaroo the worst experience ever would be "needless to say" around here. Actually most of us believe Bonnaroo is the best experience ever!
I'm sorry the camping aspect of Roo disappointed you! Unfortunately, it's Tennessee in June. The heat and humidity can be very hard to deal with. I have lived here all my life and still have a hard time with it sometimes.
Good luck with the RV, just dont get too comfortable, you may miss out on some great music chilling in that AC!
I wasn't saying the entire Bonnaroo experience was horrible, just the heat and humidity portion of it. Got a third degree sunburn that weekend, so it was well worth it. Just trying to take more caution this time around ;D

Yeah, unless being disfigured and possibly dying of a massive infection is worth it, you had a second degree sunburn. Still nothing to balk at, though. I had one in 2006 that I had a hard time keeping clean while it healed and left some scarring, but it didn't damage the nerves under my skin or leave me looking like Freddy Krueger.
If you can't do a camper thing, just make sure to have adequate camp shade (there's a thread around here somewhere about that) and reapply your sunscreen often. That spray stuff is great because you can give yourself a quick spritz every now and then and it cools your skin while protecting it. No more disgusting, oozy burns!

Thanks!! ;D
Google "popup camper rentals" along with the state you live in. Pick one, check availability, and go see them with your vehicle and they will set you straight on what you need to haul it. Pick the smallest unit available that will sleep however many people in your party and has a refrigerator, AC, toilet and shower. If it doesn't have AC, fridge, toilet, and shower then don't even bother because those four are the difference makers at Roo. However, skipping the fridge wouldn't be a deal breaker.
I caution against taking the advice here regarding trailering and what you need to accomplish it safely and legally. Not that anyone here is necessarily wrong, just that there are a lot of variables to consider. I own a construction company and currently own three different trailers and pull them all with the same truck. Each one requires a different configuration of hitch, ball, pintle, wiring, brakes, etc even though they are all pulled by the same truck. Most places that rent trailers will either be able to set your vehicle up for you or refer you to someone who can that they regularly work with.
If the unit you rent requires a generator to run the AC, then the rental agent will most likely be able to supply this as well. Inforoo is great for so many thing Bonnaroo, but this one is best answered in person by a professional in my opinion.
