I'm finally going to buy an EZ-UP after doing camping festivals since Bonnaroo 2008. I refuse to sit in the sun like a chump this year. I found three on my local craigslist: 2 Sierra II's at $80 and $100 ($100 new with free shipping on Amazon) and an Enterprise II for $125. I was considering offering the guy $150 for all three since he's overpricing but I don't think I need 3 EZ-UPs.
Well anyway, my real question is: Will a Sierra II be sufficient? How do you keep it on the ground in the wind? What are the best ways to shade it but keep it from becoming a tarp'd in heat box?

3 Roos and these cheaps ones from Wal-Mart have never failed me.
As far as tarping, the conventional wisdom is to align your ez-up with a side facing each cardinal direction (north, south, etc.). Hang a tarp/sheet/tapestry on the east and west sides of your ez-up so it blocks as much of the morning sun while still keeping the north/south sides open for breezes.
Are they 10x10 or 12x12? I have the 10'x10' Sierra II and it was enough for about 4-5 people to sit under. The legs go up at an angle, so the top is really only about 8'x8'. I'll be getting another one of these, or a bigger one for more shade this year. Possibly one to put over the tent.
They have holes in the feet so you can secure it with tent stakes, or you can buy weight bags made to hold it down.
You can hang sheets from the sides. Last year I used flat sheets and some clamps to make walls.

Hey, first timer here! Regarding the 10' Sears canopy, do those legs lower down, and if so how low do they go (limbo!)? I'm considering skipping a tent and sleeping under this at night instead...low enough for a little privacy?
We lowered it during the storm right before Eminem last year. If I remember correctly, it did go pretty low. Just remember to take the stakes out before you lower it, as the legs will try to straighten out a bit and they may bend/break.
Not an EZ up, but appears to be a good, cheap shade for anyone looking here. Not sure if you could attach sheets or tarps to sides, but fairly good side coverage. Good reviews.

i dont suggest using tarps, they trap heat and bake you underneath them. use darker blankets or tapestries than can still breathe somewhat and position one or even two to block the sun as needed around the EZ up.
i just put it up at night. you can secure it pretty properly with enough tent stakes. you could even bring extra ropes and stakes if you were paranoid about it

This is my first time camping and Man am I glad I read this thread because that was exactly my plan; to use a single large tarp to cover the East and West sides. Good to know!!! I'll be adjusting my strategy accordingly.
Man do I feel bad for the unfotunate souls who Roo for their first time and don't read this board. Sucks that you can't find a link here from the official Bonnaroo site anymore. What's up with that? ???

I always tell people to invest in some form of EZ-UP. I usually just get one from Wal-Mart each year and by the end of the weekend, it pretty much has done its job for me.

I have the name brand "EZ-UP". And I brought it last year and almost died carrying it to TO. The thing weighs about 100 pounds and seemed likely wouldn't bother me too much when I was packing... But that long walk at 5:30am was terrible. And the hungover walk back was worse. So as a warning: if you have a heavy canopy, bring a wagon or cart of some sort.
