STRAW! As in DRINKING STRAW!
Well butter my biscuit! You have those in Tennesse? ;D
Bahahahaha! Too funny!
KK it's amazing how your body has changed since you have quit smoking, I hope you are able to see a cardiologist soon and get off your meds. You couldn't give me a million dollars to give you a smoke at roo, ain't gonna happen.
Speaking of the smell, I had to drive my Mom's car to work this morning and she's a smoker. The smell of her ashtray was revolting. I hope I'm able to get her and my Dad to quit too but once I'm doing something myself I tend to get pushy when it comes to family, like when i'm on some new health kick and I end up turning them off of the whole thing. We will see though!
Whoever said they can quit whenever and all that, that is me. I smoke for three - six months, I don't for a year. -shrug- I quit the last time when my smoking buddy at work (she even smoked the same brand/flavor!!) moved. I've never been a heavy smoker- 1/2 pack a day would be a lot for me. When I drink (a lot) I hit up Mike/Sarah/whoever is around for a cigarette sometimes. Maybe 1-2 every month or two. I'll bring a pack to Bonnaroo because other smokers will get me craving one and I don't want to bum more than necessary. :-D
To all the quitters: YAY, keep it up and good luck!
Abra, the car reminded me, my sister dated this dude and they smoked in the apartment/car/where ever and they didn't smell like cigarette smoke- they smelled like ashtrays. It was so gross, don't even know how they did it. My friend's mother has always smoked in her house and it doesn't smell like that. 0.o
What do yall thinking about getting Scrog, Bonnie, whoever else small water guns at Roo? When they see us smoking, they can tactfully and courteously give us or the cig a little squirt?

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

the only time i was really addicted to cigs was when i worked door staff at a bar/venue. People would always step outside to smoke and being surrounded by the smell just always made me crave one. It eventually got to a point where I just needed one to keep my hands busy. I always needed either a drink or a cigarette in my hand.
When I quit that job I started trying really hard to get in shape by working out and running every day and yeah I just couldn't do that while on cigarettes, so I quit. I feel like that's the best advice I can give on quitting. Counteract your habit by something more healthy and rewarding that just won't work while smoking heavily. When I did it I developed a very bad cough and had to go on antibiotics, but I didn't really mind because I knew it was just my body clearing up the mess I made in it for over a year.
I still buy a pack every now and then for parties and bar hopping because when I'm drinking and around other people that smoke I always want one but I HATE bumming cigs from people because of how expensive they are now, I just feel like an a-hole.

KK and I are going to hide behind the porto's and huff a few down at brunch when no one is looking
Bring me a menthol and I'm there!
I will find you two!
Squirt guns? Nice! I will hold off on the jokes here, too easy, but yes, MikeD and Popsicle Sarah are added to the newly, but not final, named list of, "Help me Quit Smoking, by Squirting me(tactfully) in the Face" group.

I quit about two years ago, after smoking for twenty, and have been going to 'Roo for eight years. Even though I don't smoke the rest of the year, it has been surprisingly easy to pick them up only on the farm. I look at it as just one more indiscretion among many for those four amazing days, and then I have to recover from all of it for the following week. I don't think this approach is for everyone. I'm surprised I'm able to drop it again when I leave. But I think keeping it contained to just those four days helps me not be as tempted for the remaining 361. I've also been getting those coupons for American Spirits, 2-for-$1-each, which takes some of the bite out of having to buy cigarettes again.
Here it goes... My Spring Break begins today so I have a week without Philosophy and Taoism assignments to keep me ancy. Finished my (please dear God) last pack this morning. Gonna sub with corn and walking to the park near my house.
Any other suggestions of activities to fill up those 20 five minute blocks of my day?

Good luck! Like others have said chewing on something, a straw, or gum when your just sitting around or driving. I've been in the habit of making lists. What to bring to bonnaroo, honeydo lists, list of anything and everything. Not really productive but it works.

Keep yourself busy. Every time you feel like you could break down and light one up just get up and do something. Clean, work on laundry, take up a minor project at home like painting a room, anything. Keep toothpicks, gum, and/or straws in the car to keep your hands and mouth busy. Drink a lot of water and avoid any triggers for a while (i.e. beer). Good luck!
