They cost about the same onsite and have a much better selection. Lot's of the bands will have shirts as well. I would recommend going to the merch tent early and getting what you want the first day. The cool stuff tends to sell out.
I usually end up buying a bootleg shirt. On my way out on Monday. For 5-10$
I do that for a lot of festivals. There is a festival that I go to that's local for me. And I bought a shirt. A few months later I was wearing it in a local grocery store and a woman came up to me to tell me that it was her and her daughters that made them.
That story has nothing to do with anything, but I like to tell it.
Be careful with the bootleg tye dyes. 1. they will typically have missing bands on the lineup, or misspellings. 2. they will BLEED all over your shit in the washer.
ive never seen them sellout of a legit roo shirt, they have a huge setup there beside the merch tent where they are constantly making new shirts.
the artist shirts however DO sellout fast. and are only available the day that artist is playing..

I spend way too much money at the merch tent hahaha. Always need at least a kid tee for my young 'un and a tee for me. Last year needed the necklace. OOOh, and always a bumper sticker or two. hehe.
Yes - DO NOT wait and think you are going to get it later. If you see something you like on Thursday buy it then. I guarantee you it will be gone later. Although last year my husband really wanted the tree shirt and it was gone but then Sat evening they had some more and he got one but then they were sold out again and everyone was looking for them. Although I know you could have gotten it later on the website.

What bdiddy said above ^^ If you see something you like, whether from the real tent or the bootleggers, get it. It may not be there later. I have a nice mixture of real shirts and bootlegs. My wife loves the bootlegs, which are usually off-center or have misprints, but are still pretty neat, and sleeps in them. Also, they will often have deep discounts on prior year shirts at the merch tents. Last year I got two long sleeve (xxl, madman-I have a hard time getting current year shirts in xxl, but they always seem to have last years. Doesn't make sense) 2008 shirts for $5 a piece. You can't beat that.
bonnaroodavid is totally right. We usually pick up a bootleg or two and spend waaayyy to much in the merch tents. Larger sizes will be sold out earlier and band gear will go quickly.
BTW we tend to cheap out a bit on the kids since they're not usually there and have gotten the t shirts from the Ford tent for free for the last couple of years.
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.

Pretty sure that's not true. I bought Black Keys and Arcade Fire shirts at the merch tent on Sunday afternoon before leaving last year. Maybe it was an exception? But I remember looking for a Sleigh Bells shirt and there were none, and someone told me the same rule above. I pointed out the BK and AF exceptions, and we were all confused.
But yeah, there was a better Black Keys shirt I realllly wanted, but they were all sold out. If you see it, get it. Worse case scenario: you have an extra sweat mopper you're carrying around. Or a makeshift cover from the sun.

I've waited until Sunday before to buy merch, like T-shirts, and been burned. Last year, I waited until Sunday to buy the Roo pendant at the merch booth in Centeroo and missed out. I did hold off last year until Sunday on buying a shirt for a friend and stumbled across a nice bootleg. Like everyone else on here, I'd say if you see something you like, buy it, don't wait.

yeah i dig it too. i think i remember seeing the warren shirt at a bonnaroo a few years ago. i wish the current bootleg shirts had this much imagination and creativity. now they're just a half-assed graphic and a listing of the bands.
Yeah, if you buy the bootlegs now a lot of them make it feel as if you're wearing a giant blob of ink/soft rubber on your chest or back, and they look like they were dreamed up and produced in a total of 10 minutes. Pretty sorry. (I feel like an old timer, writing that. Instead of writing about the good-old-days of bootleg T's, maybe I should write about walking to and from school uphill or the fruit basket I got for Christmas
I got a tie dye bootleg shirt on my way out last year. No typos or any issues, except the blue coloring did bleed for a long time. I still love it though.
Abra, they also sold it on a leather necklace that was like $10 cheaper, I did that as I already have silver chains Hollie and I booked it to the merch tent Thursday for them, I think after the Arcade beer/food truck meet up.
(sorry, couldn't get the image to upload for some reason)
That whould be super east to recreate. Get some t shirt iron on paper and I'll MS paint that for you in five minutes, lol.
ha, true true. i may have to do that someday. i have a whole list of shirts i would like to make and pages and pages bookmarked on home screen printing.
I've always bought bootlegs. I'm still rockin my 2005 tye-dye that has a few bands that weren't there. 2006 had a really cool design, but ended up shrinking down to a medium in the wash. 2007 is still going strong. About a third of the band names peeled off in the washer of my 2009 shirt the first time i washed it. It's hit or miss.

2008 they sold out of the dancing skeleton shirt. I waited until Sunday and it was gone. So if any one has one of these in XL or XXL, please hook me up.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
Seeing that necklace makes me feel kinda salty. I liked it the first time I saw it on Thursday night, but I didn't buy it - then, Friday or Saturday. Come Sunday, it was too late. If they have it this year, I'm not making the same mistake.
