How do you guys feel about costumes? Have you done a costume? Love seeing them? Hate them? Do they get in the way at shows?
So, my husband made this robot costume for our son for Halloween and I keep trying to talk him into modifying it to make it bigger so he could wear it and he's not into the idea at all. He doesn't want to deal with it. I then tried to talk him into wearing just the head but he's not into that either. I think he doesn't want to have to carry anything extra around.
I just think it's so cool, it lights up and everything and would look great at late night Roo!
And before you say that if I think it's so cool I should wear it - I'm too shy and would never really get into it. I know if hubby wore it he'd be robot-dancing and doing all kinds of cool stuff.
Just curious on if you are into the costume thing and how it works out for you....
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

The costumes I saw were some of the best parts of the weekend! I wouldn't dress up too crazy during the day, but go nuts once the sun sets! I'm bringing a couple costumes this year.
i love seeing the costumes at roo, they're definitely a highlight of the weekend and a great conversation starter...not something i could do, though!
agreed! more power to those of you willing to put forth the effort and hassle of wearing costumes! they are great fun for everyone to look at. maybe not a 10' hat if you're standing in front of me, but i will work around it if need be.

after going the first several years without wearing anything special, i am now all about the costumes. but yes, only when the sun goes down. last year i had a tuxedo outfit for my morning jacket complete with cane, red el wire top hat, tie dyed tux shirt, and tux pants and jacket. i couldn't even wear the shirt and jacket even at night - too hot. carrying around extra stuff can be a pain in the butt though. i'm still trying to decide if i want to come up with new ideas this year or just re-wear old favorites from the past.
I saw a guy in 2009 in a full powder blue 70's tux, a real afro and one of those cigarette plastic tips. I thought man that would be awesome to do, but it just looked waaaay too hot.
I really enjoy seeing the costumes, but wouldn't want to deal with the discomfort.
3/19 Portugal the Man 3/31 Japandroids 4/3 Alberta Cross/BRMC 5/1 White Rabbits 5/7 OK GO 5/14 Mumford and Sons 6/2 The National 6/10-13 Roo 8/21 MMJ and Tom Petty
I'm with your husband....I don't mind others doing it, but for me, it's too damn hot, or wet, or humid...whatever it is, not suitable to be all wrapped up in a 'costume'.
Nope, give me some comfortable shorts and shirt, and it can be hot, rain, wind blowing...I don't care; I'm comfortable and ready to hear some great music....

I tried doing a costume at Voodoo fest in 2010, it being halloween and all. Even in the mild weather of NOLA in October it was annoying to me. I just don't think I'm a costume at a festival kind of guy, comfort is of paramount importance to me.
BUT, I love love love to see the costumes, and I have great respect for the discomfort I know they are causing the wearers. There was a guy at Bear Creek last year dressed like the State Puff Marshmellow Man. He was amazing.
my best costume in the tennesse sun ..is half naked (see my I want more boobs at bonnaroo thread)...although I have been toying with the notion of wearing wings or a novelty headband. Even though I think that your costume is AWESOME!!! I think you will be very if not extremly uncomfortable...Pump your heat to 90 in your house and walk around with it on see if you can deal with that then have every member of your family bump into you repeatedly oh dont forget those bathroom breaks in the port-o-potty!!!!
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

A robot that lights up would be awesome! He should go for it at night! I'll be bringing a couple. I have the standard fairy wings and a rainbowbrite costume. Something else, I'm just not sure of what yet.

Hmmm...seems like this thread was tailored for me...
As someone who always weras the same costume (Viking Horns and a Clock) abd occasionally even becomes Deadman Pondo (see pic), there are two sides to this coin. First off, yes it is hot! Not gonna put it any other way BUT when you see people who know you are holler out Pondo!, it makes it all worth it. Costumes are not for everyone and yes, some people only do it at night but if I am there and able, The Horns and The Clock are part of who I am at Bonnaroo.

i always love seeing people in costume. it makes everything that much interactive and surreal.
my only costume was wearing a pumpkin hat and painting my stomach orange. anything more than that seems too hot, but more power to everyone who's willing to stand the heat!

I'm planning on a light and airy one: superman briefs, and a superman cape to keep the sun off my back/shoulders. You'll know it's me since I'll probably be the first ginger superman in history, and you'll be catching reflection from my pasty chest.
I love any and all of you for doing costumes but for me too hot! The closest thing I've been able to work out is my fake beards but once that's over I throw it in the suitcase and move on!
