I would actually say it's the exact opposite. Waffles tend to be bland and can generally only be improved by piling things on top. When you're making pancakes, you can add whatever you'd like to the batter.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

My pancake batter is my waffle batter. That waffle iron will still cook it all as well as a pan

Sure you can. Well short of say Apple slices it will squish. Makes a crazy looking waffle to see bananas, peaches, or blueberries at angles. Just press the iron together, nothing there to break.

I just tried googling it as, honestly, I've never made waffles and I eat one every couple of years (I really dislike them that much).. Other forums and blogs tend to sway to the "put fruit on top of the waffle, because it doesn't work as well inside." My thought is that with the crispy waffle, the fruit would seem mushy and nasty in comparison. Whereas with a pancake, it can all just meld together. But honestly, I've never seen anyone try to put anything in a waffle besides chocolate chips. Which says something in and of itself.

Sounds like you have a long weekend morning of research ahead of you.
Best part of waffles is all the little squares that capture the buttery syrupy goodness, your pancakes just soak it up and and have no texture! Don't get me wrong, Ill eat pancakes, but Waffle is clearing the king.
^Which brings me to the next point. A "healthier" style pancake tends to taste better than a cardboard healthy waffle (in comparison to their original recipes).

Hmmm, good point Bonzai. I do like buckwheat pancakes(are those healthier?), I have never really tried to make a healthier waffle though I have several viable ideas =). I do believe that almost anything made with just whole-grain wheat flour is not so tasty.

trick is to add some cinnamon to the wheat flour, maybe a touch of brown sugar.
