Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
For me, it is really interesting how little things can really make or break different dishes especially ones like pancakes that seem so simple.
Any good cook can add more ingredients to a dish to make it stand out, but it takes a great cook to perfect something really simple. This is why someone like Jiro can become world-famous for what he does - because it's really fucking tough to do!
Gordon Ramsay says that when he's hiring a new chef, he'll have them cook eggs, and if they can cook that, they can cook anything (although he has clearly not met my dad. He can only cook about three things, but he'll make you the best damn eggs you've ever had. I call him the idiot savant of breakfast foods... but I digress).
