first order of business should we do it that way, as best band to ever play roo or do it as best sets at roo. i think the best best sets thing is a completely different deal and we could do that one separate from this one.
if we are doing best band all-time again i've went ahead and made a list of bands that were in the tourney last time, minus those that lost in the first rd. there are a few exceptions that i made for bands that had really tough draws that year and should be allowed back into the tourney. i've also added in some bands that i think should definitely be in the tourney that have played in the last 2 years. this group is 52 bands. so we need to nominate 16 more. when you're nominating these 16 it can be any band that has ever played roo, including those that are playing this year. the first 8 are going to be bands that definitely belong in the tourney. the last 8 are going to be involved in a play-in round to get it down to 64, just like the ncaa tourney.
here are the 52 bands that are automatically in the tourney: bruce springsteen phish pearl jam dave matthews the dead metallica the police tom petty neil young bob dylan tool white stripes stevie wonder nin beastie boys jay-z black keys wsp mmj avett brothers wilco david byrne ben harper flaming lips allman brothers elvis costello beck robert plant sci oysterhead the mars volta lcd soundsystem the roots primus sigur ros steve winwood robert randolph les claypool (all bands) warren haynes/govt mule galactic

Thanks for the clarification.
WEEN! James Brown Yo La Tengo Sonic Youth Primus (really should be seperate from Les alone, esp since you have Robert Randolph and The Word as distinct slots) The Raconteurs Manu Chao Dr. John
Ornette Coleman Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra Tortoise The Dead Weather Zappa Plays Zappa Liz Phair Peelander Z Chris Harford & the Band of Changes
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
umm, is Radiohead not automatically in the tourny? am I seeing that right? WEEN! James Brown Yo La Tengo Sonic Youth Primus (really should be seperate from Les alone, esp since you have Robert Randolph and The Word as distinct slots) The Raconteurs Manu Chao
Ornette Coleman Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra Tortoise The Dead Weather Zappa Plays Zappa Liz Phair Peelander Z Chris Harford & the Band of Changes
we're going to have radiohead go up against the winner.
Radiohead won this tournament last time (in 2010) and there is a great chance they win this year's Roo vs Coach. It only makes sense to have the winner of this take them on as the true final.

2012 will be my first bonnaroo so I dont know how good any of these were but here are some of my favorite bands not included: dispatch (this year but im pumped) kings of leon (yes i actually enjoy them) robert plant damian marley and nas john fogerty phoenix public enemy lupe fiasco jurassic 5 jack johnson maybe include certain superjams, 07 with questlove ben harper and jpj sounds insane!
Off the top of my head, some "legends" that I didn't see on the list that would gather some votes:
Al Green, Buddy Guy, BB King, Jeff Beck, James Brown, Fogerty, Dr. John, Meters, etc.
Personal Favorites I would like to nominate: North Mississippi Allstars, Bela Fleck (w/ Flecktones would probably be best), Yonder Mountain, Keller Williams, Jurassic 5 (or Chali 2na), Public Enemy, Herbie Hancock, Jack Johnson, Big Boi, Grace Potter, and an additional vote for Rodrigo y Gabriela
I think the best way to figure out which Superjam to use is have a seperate vote, and the winner is the Superjam representative. Just a suggestion. Thanks for doing this guys. Should be interesting

i second the nomination of chali 2na and big boi and like tay007ys superjam idea. 15 bands and a the #1 superjam. the superjam should be one of the 8 thats automatically in
I would maybe throw The National on there. They've played twice, right? I saw their set in 2010 and it rocked my face. I'll add a vote for PTM as well.

I like this a lot! I just hadn't seen it on here. It must've dropped pretty far. I'll add some nominations: Portugal. the Man, Phoenix (blew up partially bc of Roo), Dr. John w the Original Meters, Explosions in the Sky, and Primus (separate from Les Claypool).
here is the tounnament field. vote on the seeding. io have it pretty much laid out by how high they have been on the lineup. towards the bottom it's bands that were voted in.
