I'm looking to skip the Sunday shows and get on the road as soon as humanly possible (say 8am). More than likely I'll be doing TO camping, so the plan is to get up early and cart everything back to the car, then hit the road for my 900-mile drive home.
Is there any way to plan for this in terms of getting an ideal parking spot or any other tips that might help me prepare for this?
My understanding is that I'll likely be in BFE (arriving Wednesday evening, coming in from Austin, TX via Nashville), so I'm unsure of how difficult it would be to leave the camp grounds since the festival is still ongoing.
This is my first 'Roo and I didn't see anything else that specifically addressed this, so many thanks in advance for any advice.
It shouldn't be too hard a vast majority of people left early on Sunday last year, so you should have no problems.
People leave early but not 8am early. Well, not a ton of people anyway. Best bet is to make sure your neighbors know, so you can work something out ahead of time. Since you're going to Tent Only, the fact that you are giving them some extra camping space should help.
I don't know. 8 am is a bit early to be bailing. There's no way to determine where you'll be parked or how boxed in you'll be. Can't take Monday off and leave Sun afternoon?

It's looking like this would be a bad year to skip the Sunday shows with so many good things set for that day. I left Sunday night in '10 because I had to be at work Monday morning.. I was camping in tent only, but earlier in the day I had gotten the people camped in front of my truck to pull their tent aside so I could get out of my parking space. This wasn't difficult since they didn't have their tent spiked down or anything heavy inside.I parked on the road beside my initial camping area for the day. After Orgone I went back and got my truck and parked on the road next to my spot in TO. I loaded all my things up during DMB. As soon as I finished packing up and pulled out onto Shakedown Daves set ended and Centeroo let out. I was stuck for close to an hour in a herd of unhappy festival goers exiting from the main arch. Of course, leaving at 8 AM, you won't have that problem.

I would suggest talking to your neighbors the day before, or when they are parking you talk to the people doing the parking and maybe they could park you on an end row to make getting out easier. Looks like Sunday is going to have some great bands so it might be difficult to get out. I'd have a back up plan in case you can't get out.

I'm already taking Monday off so worst case scenario I can leave Monday morning. I'm fully prepared for that in the event that I can't get out. Leaving Sunday afternoon isn't much of an option as I won't be able to drive due to exhaustion (I'm sure).
I would rather get home Sunday evening though (14 hour drive) so that I can use Monday to recover, and I have a lot going on the following week so I need all the extra time I can get. The way I see it I probably need to be on the road by 10am in order to get home at a reasonable time Sunday night.
As far as missing shows, just about all the acts that I really want to see are playing Thursday - Saturday, and my main reason for even going to Bonnaroo is to see Radiohead who plays Friday.
I'll see about talking with the parking attendants to see if they can put me somewhere reasonable. Since I'm arriving fairly early maybe they'll be in a good mood, and I'll throw in a $20 tip if they can hook me up. I figured I'd have to inform my neighbors of my intentions as well, but I wasn't sure just how cramped the camping spaces are.
I'd really suggest you split that drive up. Leave Sun afternoon. Drive till yr tired. Cheap roadside motel or rest area. Finish the trek on Monday. Much safer/sounder plan.

You're right. That had crossed my mind as it's hard to say just how exhausted I'll be come Sunday. I figure a huge part of it is how well I'll be able to rest at night, but I can't say for sure until I actually experience it. If I start getting tired while driving I'll definitely check into a cheap motel and get a good nights rest.
Whatever the case, there seems to be quite a few scenarios so I'll put together a plan for each. Thanks.

This. When I left Sunday night my first year, we drove about 2-3 hours and then said screw it. Pulled into a rest area and napped for a few hours until one person felt capable to drive.
Since you already have Monday off, it means you have flexibility. Leave when you can, rest when you can.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Hey m0m0! I've camped in BFE 3 times of my 5 Roos, and 2 of them I left Sunday. One of those I left Sunday around 11 or noon. I was also in my dad's 1988 Suburban. So it was a beast! But I'll pass on this advice as if I was your parking neighbor
Since you're staying in TO, I'd suggest first asking the parking folks when they're waving you in - I doubt it'll work well, they're usually pretty intent on just getting you pulled in... they arent' mean! just focused. So dont be upset if they just shake their head and wave their flag at you.
Then second - I'd suggest chatting up your car neighbors in BFE (or wherever) when you park. As you pull in, the parking attendants will try to get you as close to the car in front of you and beside you as possible. Popular phrase among GACamp Roo-vets? "SWING WIDE" Then hop out - as your loading up your crap to hike into TO, introduce yourself to your neighbors, let them know that Sunday early, you'll be heading back to throw your shit in the car and leave, so they can 1) use your free space! (yay, they'll love that!) and 2) if they could on Saturday morn or eve, maybe just rearrange or move their stuff so you can bug out sunday morning.
Odds are, they'll be super pumped to have the extra space in front (or back) of your car, and they'll be way happy to move for you since you're giving them that area. Good luck! ;D
