I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
I don't think Bonnaroo knows which day every band is going to play at that point, either
I think this is valid. Very. I would imagine that Roo lets the artist have some control over what stage and when they play to work with their tour schedules and other things. Certian artist might be promised a LN set or a stage with a certian attendance in order to appear. I also feel with the addition of Superjam this year, that the scheduling might even be a harder task to allow certain artists to join in or jam with other prominent artists. Also unlike Coachella, Roo does not have daily tickets. If you come to Roo, you come to all of Roo. Helps it truly be an experience as opposed to "My one day at Bonnaroo to catch Skrillex".

So everyone who goes is buying in the entire weekend, so what does it really matter what day a band plays? You buy your ticket and if you want to see them you will. But this leaves flexabilty for Roo and the bands. Think about it if they have been working with a band on playing but the manager is like look we can not commit at this time. Roo does not say well we are booked and you are out . They can add a band way late and work it in. Bonnaroo manager Neil Young is on line one.
Like some have said, I think part of it is that they don't have a set schedule fer the festival right off the bat. Some of it could also be like natedagreat said in that when you go to Bonnaroo, most of the attendees are there fer at least three of the four days (late arrivals on Friday or early departures on Sunday). Not sayin' who plays when and where up front could help draw people in. I imagine, like others here again, that the schedule depends a lot on an artists tour dates, the venues they are currently booked in, etc.
...also if I've rambled at this point I blame Corncat.

But they started out selling day tickets before the days of quick sellouts. Coachella has no reason to do it that way anymore. I'll be surprised if they have any tickets by the time the line up is announced.
Every major US festival that sells day tickets are broken down into days for those people that just want to go for that day.

Yea what Garageland said. It's totally believable that they just kept the format of having the poster show what day each is playing even though they stopped selling day tickets.

My bad. I haven't looked at attending Coachella. Maybe in the future. I was still under the impression they still sold daily tickets. Learn something new everyday.
Also, unlike a lot of festivals, a couple of dozen bands play multiple sets, sometimes over multiple days. (E.g., That Tent & Sonic Stage.) A couple of years back Grace Potter and the Nocturnals played This Tent, the Sonic Stage and the Solar Stage over the course of the weekend. (Not to mention sitting in on moe.'s set at This Tent.)
Then there is the matter of Bonnaroo's late night sets which could - but probably wouldn't reasonably - get confusing.
It does make a difference to some people. I know there are individuals, myself not among them, who get there on Friday generally. If this were the case for me I'd reevaluate whether or not I bought a ticket because Phantogram, Das Racist, and Big Gigantic are pretty big for me. I know they're Thursday because I frequent this board, but the vast majority of attendees don't. It would be nice if they released a general who's playing what day around this time of year when they have a good idea of it, even if they haven't scheduled everything.
