i have been looking for a cheap water resovoir backpack and havent been able to find camelbak company for any less than like 50. as i am only really planning on using it for bonnaroo i really didnt want to spend a lot. i found a few at dealxtreme.com . this site usually have cheap china brand items that take about a month or so to ship. is there a real advantage of getting a proper company or will I be ok with one of these for the weekend? again i probably wont use it again untill the next roo.
P.S does anyone know if Nike make this style of backpack? i own a sneaker store w/ a nike account and get wholesale price for just about all nike items (anything that is not crazy limited edition). i thought i found one but upon closer look it just says that it is big enough to HOLD a 70 oz water reservoir. this was the bag i found but is not what i am looking for store.nike.com/us/en_us/?l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-440407/pgid-361413
if a lot of people like those cheap backpacks i posted earlier in this post i will add them to the deals thread.
The Camelbak. They're quality. Who knows how long the other stuff will last? You'll probably find yourself using it more than you think once you get it too.

I have a knock-off hydration pack that I purchased from Target in 2008 before my first Roo. I think it was about $30. It has lasted me 4 Roos now, and it has a crap ton of pockets, which I love.
I have a Coleman hydration pack I got off the discount rack at Walmart for $25 down from $45. I've only used it for one fest so far but it worked well. It's not giant but its big enough for some stuff too.
The bladder holds two liters, and seriously, this thing has MAJOR storage with all of the pockets. I'm a girl, and this is the bag I take into Centeroo for hours at a time. And it fits everything I need, no problem!
oh wow thanks JHOinTN mucho karma for this one. i got an aunt that works at target so ill get a discount if they have them in store. XD!! 2L bladder seems a bit small for me but this is what i will get if i cant find another with a bigger one.
*edit* DAMN they are not sold in stores. bummer, but this is currently at the top of my list. just gonna do some more searching before pulling the trigger.

I have this same one. I havent used it for Roo yet, but I've taken it on 4 - 5 hour hikes into the mountains and it's kept me covered on storage space and liquid.
It's held everything from when I want to be in a tshirt to when I need hat and gloves in the same hike. Great little pack!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
yea we are gonna be bringing a lot of cases of water already. but for being in centeroo i dont want to have to be fiddling w/ bottles, id rather drink through a straw. i also ordered an anti-bottle a lil while ago through amazon for 4 bucks. just waiting on shipment as they were backordered (found them cheaper after the fact but with shipping it came out to around the same) i figured id use that for the gatorade powder we will be bringing cuz "its got electrolytes!"

My husband scored a pack last year at WalMart for $25 - check around town, you might be surprised with what you find. If you buy it in person you'll know the quality of the thing vs waiting for a month for it to arrive and hating it.

I LOVE Camelbaks. I've had one since I was 12 or do. Quality products. They are great for just about any trek, bike ride, or day trip. But this thread is about cheaper alternatives. The Ozark Trail and Coleman hydration packs from Wally World aren't too bad of a pack. Not as rugged as the real McCoy but will work great for Roo. Try to get the largest reservoir you can, less fill ups. Maintaining the reservoir is the part that most people ignore but is key if you want to have this pack for a while. Wal mart, REI and Camelbak have cleaning kits with wands, drying racks etc.
I would check amazon.com. They have a great selection and most come with free shipping if you want a real deal Camelbak. I started out with a cheaper version of a camelbak but the bladder started leaking around the seal so I took the bladder out and just use it as a backpack. I ended up getting a camelbak 50 oz and it's awesome. It pretty much holds 3 bottles of water which works for me because I can drink that much water before it starts getting warm. Shop around, read reviews and remember cheap doesn't always mean the best quailty.

yea im going to look for a proper camelbak. my cousin wants a big one and doesnt care about price, and i plan on doing a lot more cycling. do they make any over 100oz? and if they do would that just get too heavy to carry, thereby causing you to lose more water by expending energy carrying it around than the extra few ounces in the reservoir would supply? and what would be the top of the line model and what is so special about it? i probably should do this research on my own but id rather get an opinion from someone who uses these constantly :-P

No. 100 oz/ 3 L is the largest. They have a 50 oz and a 70 oz. If you mountain bike a lot, the HAWG and the MULE are the best ones fitted for that with a stuff sack up front perfect for throwing your helmet or anything else in. They have 16 L and 11 L of cargo respectively. A new model this year, the Cloudwalker is also a great one. Only 2 L of water but with 18 L of cargo is great for day hikers.
If you want anything bigger, I suggest the Alpine Explorer with 3 L of water and 27 L of cargo. Never run out of room with that. I have owned both the HAWG and the MULE, reccomend both highly. I am looking into purchasing a Cloud Walker within the year.
