Hey everybody--
Subject says it all! This is going to be my wife's and my second Bonnaroo--we went in 2006, got there early in the morning on Thursday, and more or less sailed right in.
Unfortunately, this year we've got some work commitments, and we're not going to hit the road from the DC area until noon Thursday at the earliest, putting us at the festival around 8-9am Friday morning (if we stop at a hotel and grab some sleep). We can handle getting a bad campsite; we're youngish, in good shape, and don't mind walking as long as we actually get there.
I'm just worried about how bad traffic is going to be. Maybe (hopefully) the worst of the traffic will out of the way by Friday morning, but with so little room for error, I don't want to be completely wrong, get stuck in one of those 14-hour horror stories I keep reading about, and miss most (or all) of Friday.
I know it's all a crapshoot in the end, but overall, based on your observations/experience, what can I expect?
Edited to add: Google maps is suggesting I come down 55 instead of I-24, if that makes a difference. Also, while I would love to be in Centeroo when the music starts, I fully realize that that might not happen--just a question of how bad it would be.
I can't comment on where you would be camped, but I came in Thursday early afternoon last year and there wasn't any traffic. I would imagine with them officially openin' the gates on Wednesday night now that early mornin' Friday traffic is pretty much gone. Actually last year my buddy and his wife got in Friday early, no traffic, and got camped a helluvalot closer than I did.
You will sail right in with no line at all on Friday morning. The gates open at 7:00 PM on Wednesday night now and all of the main traffic will be in by Thursday morning/early afternoon.
