When I went to Roo last year I had never listened to Tool. I had heard bits and pieces and I knew they were hard. I knew they were such a big ticket that I couldn't miss them. I was amazed, they were nothing like what I expected. I now own every studio CD they have put out. I like Metallica (I own the black album and "Ride The Lightening"), they're not my favorite but I am willing to bet that more than a few Metallica fans will be born at Roo 2008.
I knew Tool would surprise a lot of people. They are very original and don't quite fit into any mold. I thought they were a good fit with Roo.
Metallica is more of a straight forward speed metal band (at least originally) and while many people will like them, they won't surprise anyone regarding what they do and how they do it.
I like older M and have seen them a few times but may sit this one out and rest up for late night. Not worth fighting the crowd and eating the dust. Though I may change my mind. I never plan too strictly for Roo.
^^^Troo - that is how Boz and I are talking - I have seen them 3 times and am definately more of a Metallica fan then Boz. We may see them or may use the opportunity to rest - not sure - I know they always put on a good live show

I'm just trying to keep it positive. I had to take my 13 year old daughter to see Avenged Sevenfold. I was thinking I would have to suffer through it but I actually had a great time. They are really phenomenal musicians even if the music genre isn't your thing.

Ahh - I have been there - I have seen Seether, Hinder, Avenged Sevenfold and quite a few others for the sake of taking my 14 year old - we normally have a great time.
Looks like she is gonna hold out till the end of the year this year in hopes that My Chemical Romance or Green day will be touring after they release albums
Ride the Lightning is the weakest of the first 4...you should hear the other 3....esp Master of Pupperts because word on the street is they're playing that album start to finish on the tour this summer.

but why would they do that if they have a new album coming out - wouldn't they play more stuff from the new album?

I saw Green Day when I was 14....14 years ago! They're actually really fun live...

i saw avenged sevenfold a few years ago... i'm not AMPED on their music, but i have to say, those guys can play their instruments. It's just they dress like rappers/goth/tight leather... it's all mixed up... make a decision guys... it's really confusing...

Well Lars said they were doing it....I imagine they'll do a long show (Black tour was 3 hours a night)...Random tunes/Master of Puppets album/more random tunes...works for me!

I hope metallica plays some of the new stuff and it's good. It'll get the taste of the st. anger album out of my mouth
I tried really hard to like that album...just doesn't work...honestly though...Load and Re-Load are really growing on me...there are some great songs in there if you don't go into it with Kill Em All on your mind.
EDIT: I think a big problem with St. Anger is the mix...the drums sound awful....way too loud and way too tin-y...

I was also pleasantly surprised by Tool. I really like them now and had only casually listened to them before the 'roo. And isn't that what Bonnaroo is all about....those "pleasant surprises"?
Unfortunately, I sat next to a guy at work who listened to Metallica repetetively every day for several years. I am so burnt out on Metallica that I couldn't possibly bring myself to be pleasantly surprised by them. I'll be as far away from that particular show as possible.

At the end of March I'm taking my daughter to Taste of Chaos in Atlanta. It's Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Altreyu, Bless The Fall, and a few other EMO bands. The music is a blast to watch being performed but that whole scene is so negative. Noone will talk to you. I feel like everyone there just needs a hug.

Oh - my 14 year old wants to go to that - I could prolly handle it tho - but like you - would want to give everyone a hug - LOL
I saw Bullet for my Valentine open for Guns N Roses two years ago...they were pretty good....then they ended...3 hours passed...a half dozen Jager shots passed...and GNR knocked my face off...how can they be so good when its just one of them and he's crazy as hell?

Might have something to do with the 6 Jager shots.

Those booze prices are unreal. I went to see WEEN at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. I got a 16 OZ. beer for my buddy and I and dropped $14.00. Luckily he had smuggled half a fifth of Crown in under his shirt.

I agree! When St. Anger came out, I tried SO hard to convince myself it was good... But I gave up. And yeah, Bleeding me and the Outlaw Torn from Load are really great pieces of music!

I've talked to a whole bunch of people who were not Tool fans before their Roo set last year but are now. And some others who are still not 'fans' per se but were very much impressed by their set none the less. They definitely brought it, and I've seen them a whole bunch of times over the years. I can say that the set they played at Roo last year was one of the best I've ever seen them play (since 1992)......

agreed. Of the 6 times i've seen them, Bonnaroo 2007 was the best their set has sounded and looked.
"Flood" dedicated to Deputy Sheriff David Cross was disgustipating, and of course "The Master of Gay Wha-Wha solo's" sitting in 18.5 minute jam of "Lateralus"
