Hi all! This will be my first roo, and I will be flying. I am only flying because my dad works for United Airlines, and I get to fly for free! (so grateful!) This has made me wonder, how can one bring all necessary roo equipment and supplies, all while following the 3 bags-per-person policy? I will be bringing my friend, and my mom, so all together we can bring a total of around 6 check in bags, and 3 small carry ons. I know I will be bringing an ezup, as much as a pain in the a$$ it will be to travel with, but it is a much needed item. Anyways, back to the main question. I know I will probably bring 2-3 rubbermaid containers with camping gear and food. (all under 50 pounds) I will also be bringing a fold up cot, but that can probably fit in a rubbermaid bucket) Im really concerned as to how I can bring a table and chairs and other large items for camp... I'm kinda starting to worry if I wont be able to bring some much needed necessities because of the bag policy.
I'm sure some people on here have flown to 'roo, so can you give me some pointers and tidbits of advice? Much appreciated!
Also, don't worry about bringing a table, I have never found that to be a necessity. If you don't want to lug a chair or an EZ up, check out our Helping Hands thread and see if anyone with a car can bring them for you.

i mentioned this in another thread, but get some duct tape and make a couple items into one item for checking. like, tape your ez up to your tent.. and you only have to check one thing instead of two.

Don't worry, it is challenging but way possible to do this I flew from La to Nashville last year with only one other person and we did great. I was able to pack my tent and EZ up by wrapping them in a 10 *10 tarp, wrapping that in some yellow duct tape, and then using semi-cheap rope to wrap it again on each end and creating a handle. I took and old cloth and wrapped that around the part of the rope i would be handling to create a more comfortable hold. It ended up looking a bit like a body bag but it worked flawlessly. just remember to bring extra tape and rope to carry it back. I wouldn't worry about chairs too much, we just bought some cheap ones at a grocery store on the way.
I would highly recommend renting a car if possible over the shuttle as this will give you some options on where to pick up food, ice, etc.
It weighed in at 48.5 lbs The lady at the the desk was pretty impressed and i think believed me when I told her I totally did that on purpose My tent was 10 *10 and weighed about 25 lbs so that helped in figuring out how much everything was.
So we are also flying in, and noticed that United has a limit of 62 inches (length x width x height) for baggage, and just by doing the hand measurement test, it seems like our EZ up slightly exceeds that by 4 or 5 inches. We were just planning on checking this as one of our primary bags. Has anyone had a problem with this? I would rather not pay the 100 dollar oversize fees both ways for it.

You flying out of Logan? I'll be there bright and early at the crack of dawn Thursday. I did it last year. It really depends on what airline you are flying. My friend and I each checked a suitcase and checked an EZ-up as a 2nd bag. It wouldn't have been bad at all, but long story short AirTran bent us over the counter and had their way with baggage fees. Our suitcases were literally line an inch too tall and were considered over-sized. Just make sure ahead of time what your restrictions are and only bring what you absolutely need. You can get a chair and a cooler for about 30 bucks and not feel to bad about leaving them to neighbors when you leave. We're actually meeting up with ours to camp with this year.

Yeah I'm flying out of Logan, also leaving early Thursday morning. I'm flying delta and it's 25 bucks for my first bag, 35 for the second. Going to do my best to only have one bag. What are typical restrictions for what I can bring in my carry on?
Hakuna - when you got hit with oversize baggage fees, was it for your suitcases, or for your EZ up? We're worried about our EZ up being literally an inch too big for United's baggage requirements, which costs a fortune...
I have flown to Bonnaroo a couple of times, but back when you could still check 2 bags for free. My suggestion if you are flying would be to bring one of these instead of an EZ up. It's a little more work to set up, but much easier to travel with.
Tip for setting these up: get some PVC pipe that the poles will fit inside. Cut into 8-10 inch pieces with one end cut on a 45 degree angle. Drive the PVC stakes into the ground. Slip the poles inside the PVC. This will make setting it up and keeping it standing MUCH easier. The ground in usually very hard at Bonnaroo so make sure you have something you can use to drive them in.
You should be able to fit a small tent, one of these canopies, an air mattress, pillow and sleeping bag in one bag. Pack your clothes in your carry on.
