I'm looking into getting a little iPhone dock or speaker setup. One that runs on batteries and will charge the phone/iPod in the process would be ideal. Suggestions?
I bought the block rocker from Sam's last year for my husband right before Roo and that thing is so awesome. It's a bit pricey but we've gotten so much use out of it - backyards, camping, tailgating, other people's parties, at my brother's wedding instead of a DJ and of course at Roo last year.
It stays charged for a long time (never ran out last year at Roo), can get really loud, you can use your iPod or iPhone, has a radio so we could listen to Bonnaroo radio, had a microphone so we had fun with that and it also charges your iPhone for you.
Definitely worth the cost if you like music and do any of those situations I mentioned above a lot.

i got this and its awesome. its actually my main ipod setup in my apartment. this is of course, assuming you are going to be using an ipod. but its 2012 i wouldnt imagine youre not.
I have a jambox which is super small but has great sound. After thinking about it long and hard I am not going to bring it. There is sooo much music going on it is nice to just talk in the morning before we head into centeroo. I think you'll use it less than expected.

See, I disagree. We always had music going and had no problem talking with it in the background. One of the coolest things about having that block rocker and the music was we shared and got introduced to new music and vice versa from our neighbors. For example we had never heard of Girl Talk and our neighbor had his iPod hooked in our thing and we listened to a lot of his stuff and really liked it.
Apple hifi... You can find them used for around 200 sometimes. I've have mine for a long time and it is a beast. Better than any other dock I've heard.

I don't know what brand ipod player I have. But it's a small little thing that's plenty loud enough for just our camp and neighbors to enjoy...having said that, I'll only turn it up for the neighbors to enjoy if they express interest. If not I keep the volume set so it's just background music at our camp site.

Block Rocker FTW... don't waste your money on anything else. Has it's own internal battery that you recharge. It'll last somewhere between 10-15 hours off one charge. It rugged too... has wheels so you don't have to carry it. It will be coming to brunch again this year. It was two ins that can be used for microphones or instruments. Seriously, you will not be sorry you went with the Block Rocker.
I played with it for a couple minutes just now and it's sounds pretty good. Runs on 4 AA(or AC with included adapter), it has a usb port for charging ipods or phones, its' "water resistant"...I'm hoping it's perfect for the campsite. I'll let you know after the festival.

Someone last year had a dance/karaoke bar set up next to their rv right outside the side entrance. Best I've ever seen, but they had to be bringing in gas for the generators, plural, yes.
This is my custom boombox. The pic with the random girl with a mustache that was camped near me was from 2012 when I first purchased this model...on a side note I was watching Bjork last year when the same girl came up to me (a year later) and said "do you have a huge boombox"...my answer..."yes I do". I did not like having to buy D cell batteries so I started this project with a brand new one just like it...why load it up with 10 D cell batteries when you can butcher it and add a rechargeable battery. Dont let this look of box fool ya, it has inputs for ipods (where tape deck would go), AUX port, UBS, thumb drive, SIM card, electric guitar, karaoke/mic...with other ports for power and output. It has a 1 amp trickle charger mounted inside. Brought the finished "Das Frankenblaster" with me last year where I ran it ALOT over 2.5 days before it need to be recharged via car battery. It is a little bulky but sure get a conversation or dance party started!

My BOSE sound dock has fared through many festivals, and it has amazing sound. It charges your phone as well. There is a plug in version, as well as a portable version. I have the plug in one with a 12v inverter - the inverter has red and blacks in addition to the lighter hook up... So I hook up to a remote power source (like a car battery or other 12v portable device) and take over camp
