What smartphone aps do you use at Bonnaroo ? Of course I have Bonnaroo's ap but I also use the weather channel, youtube for checking out a group I don't know, my compass ap for getting my tapestry facing the east to block the sun, the mirror ap for primping lol, of course the inforoo ap, the map/gps ap to get me there and that's about it. Hopefully some of you will come up with a brilliant one that I have not thought of.
i just bought 2 extra batteries. use all the apps!
apps to use on the road google maps, gasbuddy, tripit (to set up road trip itinerary), roadahead(if u read it quickly it looks like roadhead but i digress)
apps to use on the farm (roo virgin so i dont know what all will actually come in handy) bonnaroo app, google latitude, groupme, TiKL (push to talk app for quick communication), camera (my gopro should be arriving tomorrow so i may not use this too often maybe only for instagram), alarms set up remind me of set times. all i can think of right now.
I haven't used my phone ever before on the farm, but this year I'm considering using it to use GPS Tracking Pro. Get a group of friends and you can find each other no problems. I love getting separated from friends at Bonnaroo and meeting new ones, but there's certain shows I'd like to see with certain friends.

If anyone has android there's an app called tasker which let's you script all kinds of actions for your phone. Me and my roo group have a policy of putting our phones into airplane mode when we get separated then turning on the radios every 30 minutes or so to check for texts/calls, so I used tasker to do that for me, radio on for 5minutes then off for 30. Really helped battery life. Fyi, heat drains your battery faster.
I use AS FEW APPS AS POSSIBLE to conserve battery life.
There is a way to keep aps from draining your battery if you know how to turn them off. Just changing from an ap to the home screen doesn't do it and ultimately, you can build up a ton of running aps that kill your battery. This is only applicable to the iPhone but the other models probably have a turn off feature too. From your home screen, press your bottom button twice but quickly. Any running aps will appear across the bottom of the screen. Press and hold the one on the bottom left until all of them begin "wobbling" and displaying a red minus symbol. Simply press once on the minus symbol and the ap shuts down, then you do the same for the next one and the next, etc. until they have all disappeared. Now you have very little drain on the battery and can still bring up the aps at will whenever you need them. I think most people know this trick but if it helps just one, it's worth posting.

Not totally true. The iPhone method you mentioned is true and does help. However most iPhone apps will automatically shut themselves off when closed out, few have a true multitasking capability.
Android phones are much worse about background apps running down battery life. I suggest an app called Advanced Task Killer. From there you can close any running apps.
Also on either phone turn on airplane mode. Then you can still use it for pictures and time, but it won't have any network connection to drain battery. Simply switch airplane mode off if you need to use the internet or make a phone call/send text message.
How about Google Maps for finding your campsite? I use the "favorite locations" feature all the time so that I can find my car when I go out downtown, and it's quite accurate (within a few meters).
I have no idea how well this works at the farm as this will be my first time, but it's something I'll be sure to do before leaving my campsite for the first time.
This will be my first year on the farm with a Smartphone and i can't wait to use Foursquare. There have got to be some hilarious locations saved on that property.

The only APP I will use at the farm as long as my phone stays alive is Radar Now,very simple radar, without the bs the weather chan emits,and I use the HTC EVO. Love holding the actual map of roo in my hand, cant always trust them machines. My battery lasted only 5 hrs each day last year, the heat killed it I think.
I have Verizon and have always had text lag and reception issues... *shrug*
I may add that I get the worst reception at my house, which is literally two blocks from a cell tower.
just to clarify.... went in 2010 and 2011 and both times had trouble reaching people/making calls/getting texts asap due to reception. too many people on their phones. i dont know what makes other Verizon users get good signal. Maybe with a different phone this year it'll be different. who knows...

Look, if you face Centeroo from Camp Pussy Galore the sun will basically rise behind you. If you face Centeroo from Camp Zed the sun will basically rise in front of you. That is reversed.
