Hey all!
So I'm attending my second 'Roo next week after a kickass time last year. I've already upgraded to a Camelbak from my usual festival method of cargo shorts stuffed with water bottles, so I'm good on hydration, but I'm looking to do a better job managing my electrolytes this time around. I've had a few experiences with feeling faint when in the crowds even after plenty of water (including during Futurebirds, the first show last year, where I had to truck my way out of the crowd while losing my vision), so I feel like I should shift my focus this time around.
What works well for you more experienced veterans? I'm thinking of something along the lines of gel packets or powders to put in my Camelbak that I can easily carry. I'm a hungry guy and plan on enjoying the festival cuisine plenty, but I'm hoping that taking in a steady stream of nutrients throughout the day will keep me from having any more close calls.

the blurry/losing vision thing happened to me last year too. It was Thursday, my first year, I was not properly dressed for the heat and humidity.
I had to walk all the way from where the airport shuttle drops you off to the tent only area, sweating my ass off at like noon. Then I had to set up my tent....
Then I decide to go inside my tent, hot as balls, change into swimshorts.... then......
I tried to take a nap inside my tent. Yes folks true story. Noon at my first Bonnaroo I try to take a nap inside my tent....
So anyway, I am literally knocking on deaths door, so I stumble over to a group of people who have a cooler, I was probably incoherent at the time, they probably thought I was effed up on some no-no words, I'm holding out this dollar bill, saying, "Do you have any water? I neeeeeeeed wateeeeeeeeer."
They give me the water, let me keep my dollar, I stumbled off and trip in a ditch and just lye on my back and drink the sweet nectar that is H2o
I bring salt pills. I started this practice to help keep up in long road bike rides in hot weather. They work great and you don't get all that sugar from Gatorade, etc.
I buy mine at a local bike shop, they may sell em at your local outdoor store.
3/19 Portugal the Man 3/31 Japandroids 4/3 Alberta Cross/BRMC 5/1 White Rabbits 5/7 OK GO 5/14 Mumford and Sons 6/2 The National 6/10-13 Roo 8/21 MMJ and Tom Petty
I bring an extra 1 liter bottle, along with my camelback, just for using Nuun electrolyte tablets. I'll use one per day in the bottle, and they work great! They even carbonate the water like alka seltzer.
Picked up a few packs of zip fizz at Wal Mart last week. Each pack has 3 tubes each tube is good for 20oz and it was $4 for the pack. These are also packed with B12 for energy. The Orange camelbaks have caffeine

I second the pedialyte. World's best hangover prevention mechanism, too. Dual function. Learned that one from a friend who tech'ed the Jagermeister tour for Coal Chamber and a bunch of other bands about a decade ago. I always get a good chuckle thinking about a bunch of big tattooed rock 'n' roller dudes chugging the little orange bottles of pedialyte. Tastes like life savers, too.
I'd highly suggest pedialyte if you've got a bad case of the #2's, too.

Someone else recommended salt pills as a way to stay hydrated and not have to go to the toilet every two hours.
Is that the case in your experience? I purchased small packets (6 total) from REI and planned on taking one every two hours or so on the day that I'll be camping out for a spot in the pit.

Agreed on the pedialyte, they also make the little packets that can be put into a 20oz bottle of water... I make sure I have a few made up and stashed in the cooler at all times just to be safe
All these things get you to the same place. I like the salt pills cause I can just pop em every couple hours without having to mix it or have added sugar.

I normally bring a few of those gatorade powder packets which you just dump in a water bottle. One or two per day and tons of water and I never have issues. They're dirt cheap too.

Two words: Beef Jerky.
I made a crap load of that stuff last year and carried it around in my pack. Not only is it great to munch on between shows, but it's also got a beautiful mixture of salt, potassium, and protein to keep you going. I wouldn't go with the store bought brand, though -- too much salt.
Otherwise I always carried an emergency Gatorade in my pack. I never had to use it for myself, though.

Thanks, and BONNNARRROOOOOOOOO!
I have found that emergen-c is my favorite thing to have. I have one every morning and then sometimes one at like 4 pm. Also just stay away from pop or soda whatever you call it my friend two years ago was drinking mountine dew and it did not work out so well.
I'm bringing coconut water to try this year.... I have never heard about salt pills and they really interest me. After two 'roos of mysterious and painful cramps I couldn't link back to usual stomach concerns, I found out it was most likely dehydration.
I'm looking on Amazon atm, is there a certain brand anyone can recommend?
So far I've looked at Hammer Nutrition Endurolytes and Saltstick electrolyte capsules

Yes, this would work. Because who doesn't know how to make their own jerky? amirite? hehe

We put gatorade powder mix into one of our camelbacks last year.
Long story short, it was a terrible idea that almost ruined my buddy's camelback..

I talked to a friend of mine that is a doctor and he said to be really careful with the salt pills. He said without knowing certain information about your body, they can be dangerous. He recommended just using sports drinks or pedialyte. He said if you want to use salt pills, consult your doctor first.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll probably get a small stock of these to sample what works for me and to share with my friends. I would have never thought of Pedialyte as a possible method to prevent hangovers, but I'm liking the idea :-P
powdered gatorade is the perfect solution, but dont put it in your camel pack, i carry a nalgene just for this! Brought it last year and it has electrolytes, saves space (I was one of the last people left at the camp on sunday night and there were several cases of sport drink leftover) and you can make it as light, like i like to (regular gatorade is too sweet for my taste). I plan on bringing one jar of this stuff, it got me through 'Roo without a hitch!

I'm bringing Gatorade powder packets for bottles of water and 2 1 liter bottles of orange Pedialyte. 1/4 of each per day plus random Gatorade should be enough in addition to the 2-3 camelbaks per day I go through.
