I haven't ever been able to figure out a rhyme or reason and have never seen anyone post that they do. We're just bummed when it's sweltering and it's off. Yeah, we're the type that say f*ck the bacteria, I'm hot.
The only thing I ever noticed was when they were having water issues at the free drinking fountains the play fountain was shut off.
The thing that irks me the most about it, is when they run it at night. It's just a waste of water. Yes, it's super pretty and fun to look at, but people need it during the day, not at night.
Side note: If you notice there are major issues with the drinking water wells, tweet to the ac ent, superfly and bonnaroo accounts on twitter. They retweeted my tweet and responded that they sent someone to look into the problem.
No, instead of cooling off in the fountain you go and buy cold vendor items to eat/drink.
It's marketing at it's simplest form. Shut down the fountain where people gather to cool off, also happens to be the location of the most icy beverage vendors, Dip n Dots, Italian Ice, Lemonade...etc.

Just what we've noticed, at one point early morning they cut it off and it seems to cut back on at about 11am/12pm. Other than that it did seem to break a few times last year.
It was my understanding because the water wasrecycled through the fountain (hence brown water after a while) The fountain would have to stop and refill which took about 1hr+. So if the wooks stop bathing and peeing in it (last year saw a girl shaving) it wont turn off so frequently

That is pretty fucking gross. My promise to all of you: If I see someone doing something like that in the fountain, I will ask them to stop immediately.

I also felt like the fountian didn't get nearly as brown this year, maybe they did put some new filters in place. I also felt like water pressure at the water points wasn't a problem at all, at least for me and my crew this year. On a side note, it is EXTREMELY gross to fill up with the fountian water. ew.

OMG!! i was standing at the fountain, one of the hundreds of times i was there, and i saw some guy walk up to it and fill a water bottle and put the top on it and walk away. :-O
Anyway, i don't think there has ever been set times for the fountain to be on. I think it was on more this year than the last couple of years. It seems to be random, probably depending on how soon it starts to turn brown
