More circumstantial. However, running the urls etc. trick, the National redirects to Sufjan. Additionally, Sufjan and the National's guitarist Bryce Dressner are touring a project called "Planetarium" right now (as well as Sufjan having played with the National in the past). Surely that's just a bit too much coincidence to dismiss. I posted something earlier, but no one latched on. Perhaps just less enthusiasm than I expected over a Sufjan project at the beach. Anyhow, I'll be there.

I love Sufjan, but I've read that he doesn't like doing outside festivals so I'm cautiously optimistic about it. He would be one of the most exciting gets for me.

Here are tour dates for Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers (and Edie Brickell). No Alabama/Georgia dates and a big gap in the middle of the tour. Ripe for Hangout or Bonnaroo?

Arts Hall Thu 05/23/13 Saint Petersburg, FL Mahaffey Theater Fri 05/24/13 West Palm Beach, FL Kravis Center Sat 05/25/13 Tallahassee, FL Ruby Diamond Auditorium Sun 05/26/13 Saint Augustine, FL St. Augustine Amphitheatre Mon 05/27/13 North Charleston, SC North Charleston Perf. Meter Men w/ Page would be even better than Funky Meters!
Dispatch tour dates start 10 days after Hangout in Nashvegas with a B'ham date right after. I hope they don't get booked again, that was some wankery last year.
Agreed. OG Meters or Meter Men > Funky Meters (but I would take any Meters incarnation in any venue and be happy).
I was looking forward to catching that Dispatch set at Hangout, but didn't enjoy them at all. Ended up skipping them at Bonnaroo.
I totally missed Steve Martin at Roo '09 I wanna say. He would be awesome at Hangout! Edie Brickell is not too shabby either I wanna say she is Paul Simon's wife? The one from The New Bohemians.
The National is alright. If we are already getting Mumford'd and Avett'd, the National may be overkill. I saw them in '01 and they were pretty good, they were alright at Roo '10 but it was before Tenacious D and I was too excited knowing The D was about to go down to pay much attention.

Creed? Hinder? Are you f'n kidding me? I hope this is a joke, if it is, you slay me sir. But I personally am giggling at the idea of Green Day and Lady Gaga headlining a festival haha
I graduated high school on the Coast and my friends that still live there but aren't into non-pop radio music (let alone the festival scene) were all "man, I bet you guys are geared up for that!" whenever Vanilla Ice/Maroon 5 were announced as headliners.
CPR fest has worse lineups than Gulfport Music Fest and Bayfest. I went to one of the early ones back in '98 just for Violent Femmes. That might be the only good band that they've ever booked.

Hey as far as that kind of festival is concerned I am all for it. Keep em coming, make them weekly. EDC Orlando the same weekend at Bear Creek was the greatest. Got to enjoy all my funky jams without underaged teenyboppers running around in animal hats being obnoxious. A Maroon5 fest at/near hangout is excellent. Keep some of the more obnoxious bros away

Just scrolled through my Jambase and came up with this: Rule out The xx (Prague) Alt-J (Euro) Ben Harper (Cali) P-Groove (Brock is finally going to rehab) Fleetwood Mac (Canada) Lana Del Ray (England) Heavy Pets (fest in FL, listed all 4 days) Explosions in the Sky (England) Clapton (England) JJ Grey and Mofro (GER) Joe Bonamassa (3 nights at Beacon) Depeche Mode (Euro) Motorhead (Mexico) Travelin' McCourys (upstate NY) Donna The Buffalo (NY) Blind Boys of Alabama (NE dates) Joe Cocker (AUS) Elton John (doing a big residency in Vegas, doubtful) Flaming Lips (start a tour in England on the 20th, unlikely) Tame Impala (closing up a North American tour in March, but not completely impossible, they're blowing up) Springsteen (Euro) fun. (will seemingly be in Euro, have a small break, but before/after break in euro) Black Angels (CA) Papadosio (CA) Lettuce (NE dates) Sigur Ros (London) Crystal Castles (Spain)
Gives a little bit of ideas on which smaller bands to rule out, as well as possible headliners to rule out completely.

Hello all, I'm a newb here on these here boards, but I've definitely done some navigating around these parts over the past year or so to get the general vibe of the attendees. I've been to the past 2 Hangouts, and my crew and I plan on going this year as well. If you saw a group of hippies walking around with camelbacks and a giant yellow finger while looking somewhat confused the past couple years, well my friends, that was me and my posse of misfits.
We camped out at the campground in 2011 and stayed at the Lighthouse in 2012. A room at the Lighthouse has been booked for this year as well. The scene on the beach and balconies at that place after the festival each night was straight up truly delightful. One of the friendliest environments I've ever been in. I don't know why I'm writing this now, but I just feel like sharing a common bond of love with you all for this event.
I'll be the first to admit that last year's lineup wasn't the greatest, but it didn't really matter at all, in my opinion. We still grooved like some animals. And like I said before, the general environment is just so god damn chill for the most part, although there was this one trippy dude that invited to take me and my lady to "Shakies" while we were zonked out on some never ending 24 hour acid. Being a keen observer of shadiness and whatnot , I decided it best that we not go. Thankfully we survived.
All that being said, some bands I would love to see down there this year, with them all being unlikely, would include: Alt-J, Tame Impala, Primus, MMJ, A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, Araabmuzik, Danny Brown, Big Boi, Grizzly Bear, Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend, Umphrey's, STS9, Local Natives, Yeasayer, M83, MGMT, Purity Ring, Twin Shadow, Real Estate, Yo La Tengo, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Black Lips, Deerhunter, Titus Andronicus, Killer Mike, Man Man, Liars. Any of them would do. Ok. I'm done. Nice to meet you all. Sorry for talking so much.
