Tool's announcement was they are playing 5 shows in New Zealand and Austrailia just before the ozzfest thing: SATURDAY 27 April - Melbourne/ Rod Laver Arena TUESDAY 30 April - Adelaide/ AEC Arena FRIDAY 3 May - Sydney/ Allphones Arena MONDAY 6 May - Brisbane/ Entertainment Centre WEDNESDAY 8 May - Auckland/ Vector Arena SUNDAY 12 May - Ozzfest Japan
These don't conflict with Hangout. The last is the weekend before hangout. But that is not the GODDDAMN point! Hangout will not book Tool! HUKA don't give a single fuuck about any metal bands...especially an act that would be a headliner and is an extremely rare get for US festivals. roll tide?

Im not trying to make strangers laugh. Im just killing time on here hoping to find some info on this years fest so I can decide whether or not to book this damn condo.
I dont have time or desire to learn everyone of the regulars posting habits. I just want some info.
If there are cool people on here, then great. And im sure there are... but there are also a lot of fest-snobs on here.
apparently...

I really don't understand how you can admit that they would definitely be a headliner and a rare one at that. And also say that HMF would never book them because they don't "fit the mold of HMF."
That's foolish. Clearly HMF is trying to establish itself as a major festival along with ACL, Roo, Coach, etc. by booking big names like RHCP, DMB, going after Phish, etc. if they want to do that, they can't limit themselves to a particular "mold."
Tool would be a huge get for HMF. And while I don't think Tool would be their #1-dream-headliner, I think they'd jump at the chance to book Tool.
All that being said, I think the Japan Ozzfest makes it unlikely that Tool will play HMF THIS year. I think if HMF continues to grow and become more successful it is likelyprobable inevitable that they eventually book Tool.

I don't really care for any of the post 2006 Kings of Leon material (Except "Closer" and "Charmer"--those songs are nice, in my humble hippie opinion), but I will always be able to vibe to the Aha Shake Heartbreak stuff. If they're announced as a headliner, it wouldn't be that surprising and I'd be fine with it. Am I the only one on these boards that will admit to vibin' to the past Kings? Who's with me? WHO'S WITH ME???

TOOL is metal and they haven't released any new material in 5 years. Those two factors combined don't fit the mold. I'd love to be wrong, but based on my observation of all the shiz that HUKA has been involved with booking, I have no hope for them getting Tool this year. And if they do get them, I bet it's because Macca dropped off over an issue with Roo not wanting to share that headliner despite being out of that 300 mile radius clause. Maybe Hangout is scrambling to get Tool booked right now and that's why we don't have a quacking lineup yet. ;p
Harry Blotter, I was just saying it's Muse or KoL...not both. And KoL looks more likely now. You yourself kangfirm'd MumSons. Was your friend full of shiz? I still think the third will be Macca or Petty.

I'm going to correct you on this because this is the only thread that you are reading. It's half and half here on both of those. However, in terms of high percentages of members hating/loving something at inforoo: ~Most of us hate RHCP ~Most of us love Prince

I'm a KOL fan. While their first three albums are the reason I like them, they still put on a great show. I would be ecstatic if they were at Hangout this year. People doubted them when they headlined Roo in 2010, and they put on a hell of a show...
They have also been working on new material, so I am eager to hear it.

Speculation is fine, but there has been some absurd spitballing going on in this thread. Here's where we stand as far as rumors go.
Mumford is happening. They've been rumored since Black Friday, Caddy's source claims they'll be there, and they headline Sasquatch the weekend after (Hangout and Squatch shared Jack White as a headliner last year). It's time to accept that one, if you haven't already.
The other 2 headliners will likely be pulled from the following 3 groups:
Legacy
- McCartney is the big rumor. Too many rumblings from too many different places to ignore, but still seems hard to believe. Confirmed for Bonnaroo, so he'll be in the US this summer. - Tom Petty. Rumored since Black Friday, also a major Bonnaroo rumor. Fits this festival like a glove. - Bob Dylan. Rumor started on page 28 of this thread when a one post user named rainforla heard he was headlining Sunday. Always on tour. - Sound City Players. Wildcard. Grohl is a Hangout alum, and SCP would appeal to the older crowd that buys the pricey VIP packages. Their touring plans are still vague, though, and they haven't popped up on any festival lineups yet.
Major Rock Act
- Muse. Rumored since Black Friday, and they have a gap in their tour dates. Some people doubt their ability to pack up their gear and get to the UK by 5/22. - Kings of Leon. They are headlining Bottle Rock the weekend before, and Governors Ball in early June. - Janes Addiction. Originally booked for 2011 and billed 4th, but dropped out before the official lineup release. Billed 5th at Bottle Rock the weekend before, right behind the 4 nightly headliners. They would be a soft headliner, but Hangout might want to go cheap if they actually landed Macca. - Atoms For Peace. I'm only including this because a user named elgringoloco passed along a rumor on page 23. I would be shocked if this happened. It's debatable whether or not they would headline, but I think they would be an acceptable soft headliner similar to Janes.
Major Jam Act
- Furthur. Headlining Bottle Rock the weekend before. - Phil Lesh and Friends. One of Mountain Jam's headliners in early June. - Trey Anastasio Band. I don't think they are top 3 unless Hangout books Macca, but you never know. TAB headlined Hangout in '10, and they have gone after Phish ever since. Headlining Summer Camp later in the month. Phish was one of the 4 big rumors after Black Friday, but there have been no signs that they will be active in May. - Allman Brothers. No dates listed beyond Wanee in April, although Songkick has them listed for Mountain Jam. - Help me out here. Are there any other jam bands big enough to headline? WSP is probably out because of Jazz Fest. Phish seems unlikely to be touring at that point.
-------
I'm not swearing all 3 headliners will come from that list, but I feel pretty confident anyone who is booked will be roughly comparable to what I outlined above. I don't see them booking someone who doesn't fit one of those 3 categories. That includes hip hop, metal, and pop stars. It would be refreshing to see them think outside the box, but there's nothing in their booking history to suggest that's going to happen. Feel free to continue the wishful thinking and wild speculation, but without solid rumors or telling tour dates, it's unlikely going to amount to much.
As for reid, I was mostly joking about Phi. He catches a lot of grief around here, so it was funny that two new users registered and then immediately started making fun of him. Don't take it personally.
See Hangout? You're past generating hype and how you're just making everyone irritable. Give us the damn line up already.
I'm not a regular poster (I only joined because no other sites have a place to chat Hangout stuff) but I'd like to add that: I like EDM (just not Skrillex and "dubstep" more of a house fan) I like Tool (but I only know Undertow - 4 degrees is one of the best songs ever) and I like Mumford (I saw them at Red Rocks this summer and I have to say it was a really great show. But I can also admit that they are basically just a revamped DMB with slightly different instruments)
So far I'd be happy with most any of the bands being discussed thus far. However, I hate Mackelmore with a fiery passion but I feel like he's just the kind of novelty crap HO just might book.

Elton John is probably a stretch. He's playing a bunch of SE dates in March, including NOLA, Biloxi, and 2 dates in Alabama. He will also be ending a 13 show residency in Las Vegas on 5/11, with a month off before a European tour in June. I doubt he schedules more US dates after being on tour for nearly 3 months.
Hate the thought of this announcement being delayed by a administrative mishap. On the sunny side, if this is intentional then I have full faith. The festival certainly has a niche audience willing to sell it out almost always. If they try this late announcement crap and drop the ball though the festival will certainly lose a large bit of "festie" cred which could be terribly detrimental to the future. Surely this is intentional and we are in for a phenomenal festival this year. Faith in Shaul and co.

I enjoy Aha Shake Heartbreak a LOT. And I thought it was cool that they covered The Pixies at Bonnaroo a couple of years ago. I am not a fan of their last two albums, though. And 'Sex on Fire' is so stupid to me.

pdog, wow, good work. You're the man. Swag/awesome points when I can. You might add to the part on TAB that Phish was rumored after Black Friday (along w/ Petty and Muse), and that has since been modified to probably mean TAB since he's on tour but Phish doesn't look like they are. And it's a small band, but I also mentioned that Moon Taxi is playing Hangout this year.

Good call on the Phish rumor, I will definitely add that. I can keep updating that post if there's interest. My main focus was headliners, but I'll make up a list of undercard acts, too. Most of the new users aren't going to dig through nearly 70 pages of posts, so it might be nice to have a summary.
