Tnere's probably about a 75% chance that they won't even take a second look at a lantern w/ a glass mantle. I've brought mine before and nobody said boo. All depends on how attached you are to it and if you're willing to loose it. If you haven't checked them out, the newish LED ones work a charm and last at least as long, if not longer, on 4 D batts as a conventional one does on a Coleman bottle.

It actually never occurred to me that the lanterns were glass until this weekend.
Security guy #1: (Pointing to my lantern that is packed it it's box sitting on top of a huge pile of stuff) Is that lantern glass? Me: What? Oh maybe... Umm.. Let me check... Security #2: No no. That's plastic. For sure.
