(I couldn't find a thread on the topic. Apologies if this has been covered)
I'm seriously considering day-tripping this year (Radiohead Friday, the metal tent on Saturday, and Beach Boys/Ben Folds Five Sunday). Has anyone here done that? How long does it take to get in and out of day parking? Is it worth it to drive down from Nashville each day for just a couple acts?
I had a blast in 2008 (VIP) and 2011 (GA), but I just don't think the lineup is enough to keep me interested all weekend.
Let's just assume camping is not an option for me this time around. All I want to know i this: is it a pain in the ass to drive in and out of day parking every day?
Nope, not a pain at all. I have family in the area, so I just stay with them usually. I've camped before, it's fun, but it's hard to beat coming back to a bed and a shower. I probably wouldn't do it if I had to drive all the way back to Nashville, but to each his/her own.
Anyway, just make sure you come in via the main gate, the one from the west on Bushy Branch Rd. Tell the people when they're checking your car that you're day parking. They'll point you to the day parking lot and you won't be the only person there. It's a bit of a walk to Centeroo, but not as bad as BFE. Traffic can be a pain on Thursday, but it was non-existent last year due to them letting people in on Wednesday. The other days, it's not bad to get in. And it's always easy to get out. Even on the years where there's a big line to get in when you're leaving, they just route you through a nearby neighborhood and you bypass the traffic.
So, it shouldn't be a problem, if you don't want to camp for whatever reason.
