Hey guys,
So this will be my boyfriend's and my first 'roo, and we're super-crazy-ridiculous excited. By all standards we have it pretty easy: we're renting an RV (and while we've never driven or operated an RV before, my parents took me everywhere on theirs when I was a kid, so I have decent amount of knowledge on it), have a pretty good chunk of disposable cash at our convenience, have each other, etc. I've been lurking the boards and soaking in everything I can about what kind of first aid items to bring, info on RV camping, what to expect, etc, but there are still some things I'm a little nervous about. For instance, I've been trying like crazy to plan the line-up, systematically going through every artist on Spotify and listening to a bunch of songs before making the decision... there are many activities going on (Oyga?) that I have no idea about and I'm just terrified of feeling like I've missed something. Should I try really hard to plan everything really well, or get there and just... go with it? Also, what do I wear? Jeans and t-shirts seem like good bets; I'm flourescent and even with sunscreen I'm sure I'm gonna burn like crazy if I wear tank tops. I dunno, guys, what else should I know? (Also: I know about staying hydrated. I know it can't be overstated, etc... I'm already drinking water. )
What do you guys wish you knew the first time? What do you recommend?
Sounds like you got the important stuff covered. As for what to wear who knows sometimes you will be a little cold wearing a hoody and jeans other time next to nothing. The weather seems to look like its going to be pretty decent pack accordinglt a little for the chill a little for the heat. and if your fair keep that sunscreen in tow tenn overcast will still burn you. The lineup ? is a little harder to answer. My boyfriend and I are going to be stage hoping hardcore, but being your first time single out the shows you absolutely cant miss and decide from there you may want to cut some shows in half to see others. Obviously there is no way to see them all, but be flexible because you may get to a show love it and stay or not be feeling it and go see something you didnt intend to see don't be mad if you dont stick to you itinerary.Lastly be positive and have fun you will luv it Experience all there is to offer and be a good neighbor.
P.S My first time I wish I knew about inforoo.......

Plan for a lot, expect to change your plans a bit. Gotta adjust on the fly if a tent is too full or if you need to stop and eat or take a nap or something.
Stay hydrated. Most important. Always be drinking water/liquids.
Your best bet is to just "go with it." Have a basic plan of what you want to do, but make sure its flexible because there is a good chance it will change once you're at the farm.
Last year was my first year, I had a lot planned out, and knew who I was going to see and when. However, once I got to the farm, my friend and I met some new people, and ended up hanging with them for a while and didn't see every show I planned on . But it was still the best time of my life.
Don't be afraid to leave the group either though. For example, last year I left our group so I could get to the My Morning Jacket show early to get a good spot. I saw both them and Arcade Fire without my friends, but still had an amazing time. I plan on doing the same for Radiohead this year.
Bottom line: Just go with the flow. But if there is something YOU REALLY want to do, don't hesitate to go and do it with our without your group.
I always plan out my schedule but have never stuck to it in 3 bonnaroos. I sorta just pick out the few shows every day that I absolutely cannot miss and then listen to the whispers on which shows I should check out - especially the artists I've never heard of. I had never heard of Ghostland Observatory and thankfully I listened to the whispers in the crowd and meandered over in 2008 for an incredible late night show. Same goes for Disco Biscuits that year!
You are going to miss something....there is simply too much going on to do it all.....so, relax, take a deep breath, and get ready to have fun....you've gone through the lineup, maybe decided on some bands you don't want to miss....for the others, I like to wander and listen....pick the one that sounds the best 'at the time'....if I miss one, then I'll catch them the next time 'round.
You are going to forget something....there is too much to remember, but don't worry...there are stores on site with everything you need, including a medical station. So relax, take a deep breath, and get ready to have fun.
You are going to make a mistake...doing something, you're going to do it wrong, but don't worry...there are people everywhere who are willing to help if you get stuck. So, relax, take a deep breath, and get ready to have fun.
What's the overall theme? Relax, take a deep breath, and get ready to have fun.
Dont burn out during the day, while there are tons and tons of things going on, night is where it's at. Lights, music, people, lights... That umphrey's show at 2 a.m. should be quite the party. They were on fire at scamp

You are always going to miss stuff, nothing you can do about. Wear sundresses and spf 100 spray sunscreen! My friends and I bring tons of dresses and are comfortable and cool (well as cool as you can be out there!). Go here for girly advice:

Every person does it different. But I'm more 'go with the flow'. I mean i definately plan for certain shows or activities....but honestly, sometimes the Bonnaroo gods have other things in mind for you.
You will miss good shows...you will catch great shows....you WILL have fun.
That said....you should highlight any 'absolutely cannot miss' opportunities and base the rest of your 'game-time' decisions on that.
You're going to get to Roo the first time and it will be sensory overload. You will want to spend the day Thursday exploring everything and taking in as much of the atmosphere as possible. Resist this urge. My first Roo, we wore ourselves out just drinking in the surroundings and never really caught our energy levels back up for the weekend. You've got plenty of time to wander and you'll never see everything your first trip no matter how much you want to. Just a good excuse to come back next year.
The other advice I have is to just get in the habit of re-applying sunscreen, drinking a water, and eating a cracker or something during each set break. I just keep a pack of those cheese crackers in my bag and eat one cracker per set. Keeps my salt level up and gives me enough continual energy to keep me going if I forget to eat a real meal (easy to do at Roo). The sunscreen thing every band is overkill, but I have the complexion of an albino vampire, so...
