Reading it does not, unfortunately = going to the website, however. the lighter idea is still one of the best, however[/quotLittle to any marketing in a solid return. It's just the possibility

hey, i got it. hand out the lighters to people that fill out a short info card, just their name, email, hometown, state. then they have until july 1st to sign-up on the site and i'll match the new users to the info cards and those people will be entered in a raffle to win a free bonnaroo 2009 ticket. not too expensive of a promo, sure to get people's attention, and a great incentive to sign-up!
Haha, I actually just came back to post something along these lines and you already thought of it! I think you're on the right track there. I was going to suggest that you could hand out cards with some sort of code to enter on the website, because I was thinking of the stuff I kept from Bonnaroo, and I had a lot of free music codes, coupon codes, etc. The stuff I kept is mostly still sitting on my desk (and/or on my feet since I just accidentally knocked it all off while trying to look at it). I held on to a few credit-card type cards with music codes, a Karmaloop sticker, a postcard with a Karmaloop coupon code, and some CDs.
I definitely think you've got the right idea with postponing the incentive. If you give somebody free stuff and say "now remember to check this out!" they've already got their free stuff and don't have much motivation. But when it turns into "remember to check this out and THEN you get free stuff" the incentive lingers. And when the free stuff is possible Bonnaroo tickets - well, there's nothing that appeals more to this market! If there's a free ticket possible, I'll be sure to give you my email addy if I see you!
^Good point! I kept our XBox thing to get our picture, all the little cards I had with free iTunes... a little card with a url where to sign up/redeem is brilliant! ;D

love the idea of the free ticket promo, especially in conjunction with the grilled cheese or beer(assuming you can keep enough hot/cold), or lighters or water bottles!!!
Sorry... I'm not going to give you personal info or email on a card (even for a lighter). I think you need to simply hand out something with a URL on it to drive people to your website.
Last year in Centeroo there were a few corporate sponsors that I gave my email to. I knew they were legit businesses. No way would I give it to some guy on shakedown street.

you wouldn't have to. you can have the lighter, and i'll talk to you about my stuff, but you just can't be entered in the raffle.
