Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
So I'm planning a business that'll cater to local music scenes across the country. I'd be working with venues and artists to get them exposure and increase the amount of people attending live performances. I don't want to go into too much detail right now, but its gonna rock when I have it done.
Anyway, I plan on launching it in Long Island in April, see how it goes, and once I have it working right, do a national launch in July. So I was thinking, in the middle of June I'm going to be surrounded by 80,000 music lovers and you're pretty much my target market.
So how about this idea, I set-up a stand with my business info, collect names, emails, contact info, hand out stuff, and all that promotional stuff. But here's the deal, I want to give away something for free (beer, grilled cheese sandwiches?) and in return, you wear a wristband or I staple something to your bonnaroo wristband with info so you can check it out when you're home.
I rather do that then hand out paper cause people lose that and I don't want to contribute to the waste. And t-shirts and expensive and not everyone wants to wear them. So a simple wristband or like a piece of laminated paper stapled to your wristband so you can't lose it and it won't be in the way of fun. And besides, you'll get free beer or grilled cheese sandwiches.
Think this can work? Would Superfly be upset at me? I don't think so, but I never saw anyone giving out free beer or food as a marketing stunt either.
What would you like to get in return for putting something on yourself to remind you to check out the website when you get home?
You'd be fine doing it with the illegal vendors, I'm sure, but Centeroo vendors pay something like $2500 or more a day just to get their stuff in. Also, if you were giving out free beer, you'd best be prepared to give out 40,000+, because everyone would be in your line.
yeh, i'd definitely be somewhere near the campgrounds. i figure i can do a case at a time. put a case on ice, when its cold, give it out. when that case in gone, "shut down" while i put a new case on ice and wait for that one.
maybe i'll have a flag that goes up when the beer's ready!
Yea, I will definitely check out your company if there is free beer and grilled cheese sandwiches and it involves music. Sounds like everything I love..
I really don't want you stapling (or in any other way altering) my wristband. I'm paying too much for it to risk getting it torn or damaged.
I'd be happy to take a free sticker, button, frisbee, keychain, etc. If fact, you could probably give away 500 keychains with your URL printed on them for less then the price of 100 beers. Beer or no beer, no one turns down a free keychain.

You will need copious amounts of beer for someone to staple something on their wristband. Also you have to think about the fact that if security sees a staple running through the concert goers wristbands, they will think that they have been tampered with. Personally I would not want to risk getting kicked out because their is something attached to my way of getting into Centeroo. But if you have a seperate wristband that people can wear, or something else cheap but useful, then by all means do it. One thing that I noticed work the best was someone put their company's web address on the cheap lighters. I still had one of those lighters this past december and I always remembered the name of the lighter (and we all need extra lighters at tha roo )
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

as much as I love free beer, there's no way I'd let you touch my wristband. as for another wristband - eh, no real reason to not rip it off five minutes later - plus if i do then i can go back in a few hours and get some more free beer. as far as keychains go - eh, not to be negative about all of these but i definitely don't need another generic keychain with some random company on it - especially since there will be plenty of them around.
I think I might keep a waterbottle, however, and would consider keeping a cosy(cozy?) that came with my beer. A lighter wouldn't be terrible.
good ideas. so let me know what do you guys want at 'roo, and memorable/useful/cool enough for you to take home and check out the website? i'm thinking lighters, full water bottles, and maybe beach balls?
i was thinking like laminated schedule cards for the weekend, but i'm not sure if bonnaroo would like me using their logo/info next to my logo/info!
ok, so instead of stapling on the wristband, how about like a loop? like the staple's on the paper, not the band. once you break the staple, the paper comes off and the band is untouched.
i just know that anything i give out can wind up in the trash, or forgotten. and i know that the wristband will always be on the person, even in naked 'roos, they have their wristband on.

we are definitely on the right track now - some great ideas! I think anything affixed to the band is a bad idea, i dunno. I definitely think it's smart in that people have to keep them on, but i think people will be concerned about tampering with it in any way and bonnaroo may raise an issue. lighters and frozen water bottles sound great! i still stand behind misting bottles or fans, maybe even sunblock or keychain sunblock with a logo?
Misting fans would be great but expensive. Glowing/blinkie thing would be popular but would get tossed as soon as the quit glowing or at shows while glowing.
Lighters are probably best IMHO because people would continue to use them for weeks, until they ran out of fluid, or they lost them.
NO to the loop around the wristband. I'll tear it off (if I even let you put it on). It will get in the way.
Lighters, pens, frisbees (I still have two frisbees I got in '06 from some religious outfit). Something easy to hang on to and fun. Forget the beer. Too expensive, too hard to keep cold, to hard to transport.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Hmmm. I think you need to stop worrying about making it something that people can't get rid of easily (attaching it to the wristband, etc). When it comes down to it, if people are interested and want to check it out later they'll hold on to it, and if they don't care they'll get rid of it. You can't try to trick people into holding onto it; it just won't work.
That said, I think a beach ball is basically saying "please throw me in the air at a show and never see me again!" Nobody will be taking that home with them. A lighter or lighter/LED combo sounds good.
The real key is going to be in marketing - you need to get the message about your company out really quickly, so whatever kinda display you have needs to include something big that can be read in about three seconds by people walking by so they have some incentive to stop and give you a few more seconds.

Excellent advice. I like your 3-seconds rule. That's all the time you get (if even that much).
I would definitely keep a lighter/LED combo (and I don't smoke).
i'm going where the sun keeps shining, thru' the pouring rain, going where the weather suits my clothes. backing off of the north east wind, sailing on summer breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.
We came home with a few things... little things like stickers we could stick in our Bonnaroo book or had stuck to or clothing and a few business cards. If they fit in the little booklet and stayed there, they came home.
I don't want anything extra on my wrist; the Bonnaroo bracelet was annoying enough in the heat, dirt and sunscreen world (but a proud and beautiful burden to bear ;D).
Lighters ARE great, as are click pens. I would take those without needing a beer or grilled cheese (though the double treat is EXTRA sweet!)
grilled cheese as support would be sweet... beer would probably be too expensive for you... but you know, i probably wouldn't turn it down... unless it was beast or keystone....

I should mention - what I DO like about the grilled cheese and free beer: both get you great word of mouth. While someone would keep a lighter(well, try to at least) they wouldn't really be like - oh, some dude gave me a rad lighter! (well at least I wouldn't - unless it was really cool, like those ones Camel gives out to promote number 9's) - they might say "some dude is giving out free grilled cheese, all you have to do is sign some mailing list" or "yo, i just got a free beer from some guy promoting a business".
The beer problem besides costing you a lot, and even grilled cheese problem is you couldn't really keep enough of either in stock - this means if someone comes over and is like "hey man, whats up - how do I get one of those free beers?" and they aren't frozen, he'll be like, you know what - i'll drop by later. and sudden its less of a priority for him - if he can even remember and find your tent again. plus there's no guarantee you won't have run out later.
keep in mind as long as you get people to sign a mailing list you could always e-mail everyone a few days after the fest asking them to check out the site, maybe even some kind of raffle or giveaway if they actually visit...
hey, i got it. hand out the lighters to people that fill out a short info card, just their name, email, hometown, state. then they have until july 1st to sign-up on the site and i'll match the new users to the info cards and those people will be entered in a raffle to win a free bonnaroo 2009 ticket. not too expensive of a promo, sure to get people's attention, and a great incentive to sign-up!
